If your anygood at painting you'd realise all the work is in the preperation.
You can sand the chrome back and use 2pac paint but if you don't know what your doing, its best to leave it to a pro

I can’t fully help you here, I’ve never painted over chrome. At my work its chrome or left unpainted for a reason, so we don’t paint it.

I can’t tell you if paint adheres to sanded chrome or not. From my experience id say it would, but I couldn’t guarantee it.

Chrome is just an electro plating which is technically metal so it should stick. Give it a really good sand, prime it then paint it, then put it out in the hot sun for an hour or so, then put them in the shade to cool.

it should stick as long as you sand it and then clean it with wax and grease remover.

Ive been looking at painting my Berlina rims for a while now, but i'm not sure what to do about the balancer weights on the outside, can they be relocated to the inside when I get a wheel balance?

dunno why they didnt do that in the first place if they are alloy rims.
wanna hope they havent marked them when their removed.
and yes you can have new weights stuck to the inside of them when balanced

Dont clean with wax and grease... it leaves residue

Clean with general purpose thinners or MEK if you can get it

depends which brand of wax and grease remover you use then maybe?

I know we sell wax and grease remover as "T14 sureflow acrylic thinners" or "prepsol" either one really.

MEK is a very active solvent, I wouldn't use it on anything I didn't want peeling, I work with MEK on a daily basis, get X3B if you can.

I'm a paint manufacturer so it's all easy to get whatever for me :P

    suggestions please ...

how to turn a black stock rim to silver?

I cant seem to buy a silver set in decent condition, so I got some black ones cheap enough so its worth trying to paint them. If they work then I'll put rubber on and use it for track days etc, if not then I'll scrap them and buy silver ones.

    Default Painting on chrome

If you want to paint on chrome the best thing to do is to sand it back with about 80g dry sand paper most of the chrome has to be removed. Then use 800g wet sandpaper to smooth it out. Then apply 1K etch primer. Once dry sand with 800g to smooth it out more.
Then you can apply the paint. These products are available in spray cans. The whole job would only cost you about $30. Being rims Acrylic black should be strong enough. This would be the only way you could do it by yourself.
At VG Auto Paints we have all the products you need.

hey I see your at Girraween as well!

How much to buy everything needed to make the black steel rims turn silver? I want them to look like the silver "chaser" rims seen on police cars or those without hubcaps

    Default Painting rims

Hey yeah we are in Girraween which is just near Parramatta.
To make black rims silver all you need to do is to use a scotchbrite pad to scuff the paint thats on it now. (this will give the new paint something to adhere to) Then use a silver paint, eg: wheel silver or a custom silver.
We have both available in spray cans, wheel silver is about $9.50 for a custom silver with more of a metallic look will be $25.50. The pads are about $2 each.

sweet, if you have the paint in stock I'll stop in and pick it up in the coming weeks!!!

Do I need to lay down a primer or anything first, or just clean/scratch and spray??

I assume it'd just be a wheel silver I'm after, just chasing that stocker look nothing spectacular just black rims were all i could get!

Also are you guys open on a weekend or only week days?

If the black paint is fair condition then you just need to scuff it up a bit. The new paint will stick fine. A primer can be used but isn't really necessary. Yeah we are open 8 till 1 on Saturdays.
