i am curious about the air box mods people are doing i.e. 2 hole mod and whatnot
why do people run 2 tubes from the air box to the back of the headlight? i dont understand how cold air is supposed to reach that area
and why dont people just run a hose from the original hole(where the "restrictive" intake tube was) down to the bottom of the engine bay as close to the ground as possible since hot air rises allowing the bottom of the car to have the coldest air. ??? please explain because im a bit confused
They put to holes to allow more air to get into the box, most people do send one of those holes down under the car.
Not sure if this is correct (so if someone can clarify it for me), but I believe if you put the pipes too low, or too close to outside the car they will pick up water when it rains... (but as I said, not 100% sure if this is a bad thing)
thanx for the inputThey put to holes to allow more air to get into the box, most people do send one of those holes down under the car.

but wouldnt hot air be trapped behind the headlights?

I've had to drive through flooded roads twice in QLD with that setup, actually. Just pull over, unclip the airbox top, and sit it to the side of the airbox base with the filter still in the top halfCouldn't be easier.
But ofc if you don't think of that first, you're right - you'll stall, and then have to get yourself quite wet![]()

Great improvement. Especially on hot days.
Holden did what they did, because it was cheap, and it's a family sedan so nobody cared. It was functional, and that's about as far as they took it![]()

There are pieces of tube you can buy that will separate if there's any vacuum in the intake tract prior to the throttlebody (such as you sucking up a heap of water or getting something big caught).
so how did u do it exactly? does that hose run from the bottom of your air box down to the bottom of you front bar... coz i was thinking of just cutting the factory intake tube an inch off the air box and attaching the hose onto that and run it under the car so i dont have to make another hole and block that one off
how much more difference would a second hole with a second hose make?
thanx for your help bud
will be doing this hose mod tomorow![]()

I stuck a pc fan in mine running from the accessory fuse.
Saves me approx $50 a week in fuel. I travel about 200km per day so its well worth it.
gave it a few horses too

i run a 3" pipe from the filter to the bottom fo the car, sits just below the bottom of the radiator. have driven in the rain, through puddles etc and not had any problems

hmm seems like this isnt such a bad idea, i threw out my pod filter cose i had a reality check, hot air only lol, and there not cool haha just put the original filter setup back on.
how much improvement on intake does running the piping from the box down to the bottom of the car have?

Potentially very bad! Just stalling is the best you could hope for. It takes very little liquid to hydraulic lock an engine => bent rod or similar, i.e. be careful!
8.4:1 compression ratio, 3800ml/6 cyl = 633ml/cyl swept volume, combustion chamber volume = 633/(8.4 -1.0) = 86ml. => > 86ml (= about 25mm in the bottom of a soft drink can) in any one cylinder = break something. A V8 will be similar.
While we're discussing airboxes, is it possible to buy an airbox base so as to be able to use a VT- LS1 airbox lid, rotated 90 degrees clockwise, in a VN-VS? One is visible on the Yella Terra whipple L67 ute in a (whisper it) SC video but I don't know if it is just a one off or something that is available to buy. (The Yella Terra website is pretty useless when I tried to search it). I'd rather not have to stuff around plastic welding if I can buy something at a reasonable price.
I'd love for you to back up that increased power claim... I'm certainly no expert and i am not above trying it if there is some merit in it but all i see is a dirty big restriction. I'd have thought the air was travelling faster than the fan at 100kmh therefor making it a restriction.
I may be completely wrong but more info and figures would be good. What is the flow rate of the fan? and does anyone know the approx flow rate say at idle of the car?
