I hope this is the right place to post this,
i just bought a CAI for my V6 vs, and while i was looking at the ones on Ebay,
and i saw one seller "*thongy*" had cut the front of intake back abit and he clams that this increases airflow
is this true and is it worth doing?
theres the image

I guess it could.. Wouldn't it depend on the car bonnet/grill position? If the CAI sits snug between the radiator and the bonnet with no gap then you've still got the same open area to suck air in with.
I think he's either a sneaky seller, or he has the placebo effect and he *thinks* it does something. I just can't see it making much of a difference.
EDIT: That being said, the entrance to it looks narrower than the funnel part, so if you've got a wider opening you could fit a little more in, the restriction wouldn't be quite so much. I'm not sure how much wider it gets behind the opening though.
i wouldnt trust that. just buy a normal one and if you really want to then you can cut out the section in ur own. or you can do wat i think foamy did and heat it up and open it up a bit. i personally wouldnt bother but its up to u.

it does allow slighlty more air through, it is a wider opening, its weather or not you actually use or need that air that is the next question, just buy a standard one mate. its plenty.
i did this to mine and it did make a difference, sfa but it was a difference.
i also took the rubber off the inside of my bonnet to improve flow a bit
man that must be a huge improvement over the stock intake. can you tell us what company made the intake and how much it cost? i want one. haha.
also, have you notice a significant change in performance and fuel economy?
If you measure up the width and height of the original intake, and find the area of its "surface"
And then work out the face area of the narrowest part of the intake (2*pi*r) and see how the two areas measure up
If the area of the lip on the front of the standard CAI is the same or bigger, then there's no gain to be had.

I have both a factory over the radiator VS S2 V8 < and a front bar CAI. Strangly even though the front bar one is 80mm and my throttle is less than that and the pipe is smooth. It does go slightly (only messurable at the track) faster with both CAI's on. Best bet is 100mm out the front bar
Damn straight. Additionally, I find having a 100mm pipe at the front bar means I don't have to remove my CAI every time I want to work on the motor![]()

I was going to look into making a Front bar CAI, beside the OTR and have both. just gotta get some flexible piping
~ VN POWER ~ Click the scales
just buy one from holden and attack it with a heat gun like this :P
It probably makes the tiniest difference but why not do it, if its free power![]()
