Default Can leather trim be successfully recoloured?

I'm considering purchasing dark grey leather trim from a Calais, but my current trim, and my preference, is black.

Can leather trim be successfully recoloured in another colour? I've thought of Vinyl Dye but it would probably wear off the upper surfaces pretty quickly. Has anybody got any suggestions or know how to change the colour of leather trim (without the obvious solution of replacing the old trim with new leather of the chosen colour.)

I actually think vinyl dye would work, leather is just cow skin and it is poures or however it it spelt :P forgive me.

Anyway, you could always go and beg for a small leather offcut somewhere and then test dye it and then rub the crap out of it a week later to see if it will wear off, also you could cut it in half and see how deep the dye has penetrated.

End of problem. The seats were on e-bay and there was a second bidder. I know what they were worth to me and I'm not prepared to indulge in a bidding war for something that wasn't all that cheap and would still have needed to be altered to suit.

    Just keep looking....
