Hi all, my wife who is a 24 Asian chick is going for her licence. Yes, you heard, 24 and still no licence.
Anyways, I'm selling my VX because she says its too big for her and my WK is more definitely out of the question. Plus she legally wouldnt be able to drive the V8 on her Ps
Anyways, I was hoping for a bit of fun and some suggestions form you all. What kind of a car should I get her preferably under $8000?
She really wants a Honda Jazz yet its above the budget I want to spend.
Criteria is;
- Must to Automatic
- Must be small and fuel efficient
- Reliable (not like that small daewoo that has a plastic exhaust.
- Safe
- Chicks car...
Excel with pink seat covers!
Spend remaining $4000 on yourself, but don't tell her it only cost 4k![]()

Honesetly though, how much are second hand getz, excels, barinas? Mazda 121's are fairly common. I think we can safely rule out most of the stylish new mini's that are getting around though.
Hyundai. Is there any other chicks car?
hmmmmmmm,no stereotypes or jokes about women drivers and asian drivers yet
I cant believe how well behaved everyone is
no question ..get her a mazda 3 .. had 2 in the family to date and cant be faulted in any way really..just bought the suzuki swift sport also but might just be a bit to much for a first car plus wont get one for that price.. also a mazda 323 prodegy ..just bought daughter one of them and its been a fantastic little car for her first car.. the hyundias are ok but when she wants to upgrade in a years time or less it will be worthless.. as for the honda jazz.. go the whole hog an buy her the new one ..its a friggin brill little car an i doubt wether she will want to change it for years so bear that in mind also.. i wished i had got the wife one instaed of the swift sport![]()
+1 for mazda 3. My old lady just got one and with the new model coming in the near future they should be crunching deals on the runout model this year.
i was going to suggest the jazz, i work for a honda/ alfa romeo dealership and i can't suggest the new jazz highly enough, its awesome, alot better than the previous jazz, punchier motor and a proper auto now, not that cvt crap transmission. iv driven a couple lately this week on good drives, and there awesome, i'm going to try and put my sister in one later this year when she upgrades from her 91 toyota corrola.
the honda's are fantastic, iv worked on other cars and nothing goes wrong with the honda's there great, i got my cousin into a civic hybrid and she loves it, there's also the new honda city coming out this or next month, looks great, inbetween a jazz and a civic, on a jazz floor plan but a 4 door sedan rather than a hatch, apparently the boot is the size of a commodores too, saw a few coming of transporters today, not sure on price, but a good thought as well.
good luck with it, jazz or the new city, yeh the extra bit will last her a long time too, she'll love them.
yeh 2000 model civics are good last of the jap built civics, very reliable, a tiny bit more maintenance due to timing belt, bigger service at a major, etc, the new cars are oil and filter with a air filter at 40k and maybe plugs on a jazz or city depending on if platinums or not, but a lot less maintenance for the money you pay, you'll also save in the long run, drove the city today from our holding yard to the workshop, very nice, also has a very big boot, commodore size, maybe slightly bigger, had the drivers seat all the way back and you could fit someone thats 6 foot tall in the back seats easy, plenty of room all round, same as the jazz too, just hatch instead of a sedan.
What about a mid 90's Ford Laser? Pretty good little cars with plenty of go in them. Should find one for about $4000
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
could always try carsales.com.au just search for a max of $5000 and use the rest as seen fit
get a rx-7 or rx-3 lol. mazda 3 or a mitsubishi colt, mirage or lancer.
go the excel?
i'd say wrx or lancer or how about a gemini haha
car for the wife
i did that yrs ago
got a new como for her
plus i had to give cash difference hehehehe
$8K is hard , if you can stretch to $10K there is heaps to choose from
look at a toyota echo, meets all your criteria and you might find one for the price , $10K would give lower kays
Good suggestions all... I've heard from a few people the Hyandai's are great until they leave their warranty period... Toyata Echo also tickles the wifes fancy so maybe I should be looking there?
Mazda3 is a good suggestion yet too high in the price range.
If it were up to me I'd spend $20-$25k and get a BMW Z3. It's not fast yet I'd fang it around on the weekend... or a porsche boxter if I had $35k+ or a Merc SLK. Those are chicks cars I'd take for a spin on any given Sunday.
97 Toyota RAV 4 Cruiser pack. They come in 2 or 4 door and get a good insurance rate. Another plus, Asian chicks love them. My missus is one of them.
They are resisitant to parking bumos and car park dents due to the plastic lower panels and these are cheap to repair and paint if need be.

Maybe a used Toyota Corolla. They are very reliable, have good fuel economy and keep an excellent resale value.
Never be afraid to try new things; remember amateurs build the ark while professionals build the Titanic.
yeh my sisters 1991 corolla has been very reliable, only thing she's had to do in 3-4 years besides servicing items is a battery (left her lights on a number of times) and pull the starter motor out that had nothing wrong with it cause the racv diagnosed a flat battery as faulty starter motor and faulty alarm, had the starter cleaned up anyway and recharged battery, no problems and the previous owner only had to service it and service items with nothing else needed, still going to try and get her into a new jazz when she upgrades thoughmainly cause i work for a honda dealership and there a great little car the new ones.
I'll look into the RAV4 when I got to work tomorrow, would be a great weekend car to drive myself if I want to go to the beach. The caprice is too nice to get sandy.
I saw this one $12,500. I've always like BMW, I could drive this to the shops myself although its a little above budget. Also I dont know what kind of maintenance I'd have to put into it to keep it going. I know the engines are p1ss weak, thats why I didnt get a BMW myself, for the price of a 2005-2009 model only the 4 cylinder was close to my price range... the 05 320i I test drove was so slow I wouldnt be able to stand it for myself.... yet my wife doesn't need a fast car.

Entry level BMWs are a con. They are a headache to work on and all the parts come at a premium. This isn't an urban myth, it is a fact. 323i and up start to become a decent car but will be way over budget.
Corollas do have a good resale, too good if you ask me. That's why I didn't suggest one even though they are a good car for a missus to leave as shopping trolley fodder.
RAV4s are easy and cheap to work on and IMO having had one for the wife are a really safe car to drive and even go well in accindents too lol.
97 was the facelift year so the early 97s are cheap but still quite nice with the cruiser pack having abs, dual airbags and cruise control.

Buy her a car that never needs oil, water, petrol or air in the tyres or washing. Then she won't complain about the inconvenience of having to attend to any of those things.
