you have a heavier car that has a less responsive motor, youll notice that when he puts the foot down it will instantly respond and rev up where your you put the foot down and it takes a second or two to realise youve done so, then it will accelerate. so it comes down to extra weight and electronics im afraid..
As said above. The vz has some sort of ani-abuse built into it preventing a fully open throttle from idle the vn doesnt
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
thanks guys, for the serious answers.
yes, supercharging is on the cards but the auto wont handle it.
i guess for now then theres nothing i can do.
is there anyway of getting rid of the anti-abuse thinggy? or getting the vz to launch harder?
Sorry mate, nothing can be done apart from getting more power, taking it to get tuned etc. As you have found out a healthy VN will hand it to just about any other large 6 cylinder. That's just the way it is
Like they say, just get a VN it'll be cheaper than a tune for the VZ![]()
Get some mods done, take it for a tune and say goodbye to the VN![]()
It's a combinaton of very light weight for a car their size and an engine which developed its maximum torque at extremely low revs. I think it was around 1200 rpm. This was one thing that caused so many problems with the early VN's - they put out too much torque down low and people got into trouble with excessive wheelspin, especially in the wet. The bloody things took off like a jackrabbit.
From later versions of the VN onwards, Holden modified the engine to raise the torque higher in the rev band, but the VN-VP models were still hard accellerators. The VR was less so, but it had also put on some weight with body strengthening and increased safety gear. It still went well, though - that was just a characteristic of the old Buick engine.
Mate used to have a VN, sat on the rear quarter panel of another mates 5L the whole race, I swear it was a freak motor
That's because they are
We've come out victors to quite a few races, that left us astounded.
VZ GTS.
CV8 Monaro. Partially worked.
XR8.
Porsche. Little bit of straight line, the rest were corners.
Those were the ones that surprised us BIG-TIME.
i have a 175 vz with full exhaust 2hole mod and k&n filter and i can beat a vn/vp 5 litre

So is there much difference between the 175 and the 190 (apart from the 15kw), apparently the feel like 2 different motors when you drive them both?? I still don't know though...
Could always try this, might be a bit faster then the VN, worth a shot....
muahahaha
It was a race between 4 stop signs pretty much. So it was stop-go-stop-go, etc.
He was leading, we were behind, right behind him the whole time.
Luck? More than likely.
But hey, it was still a win. The other guy was impressed with ours. I'm sure though, if it was anything over 80km/h then we would have been road-kill
lol....all that needs to be said.
a dude i know has a vs v6 manual , with just a cat back exhaust with no muff and im pritty sure it has a ebay memcal , and ive had a few runs with him with my vp v8 auto pritty stock with extractors and 3 inch system with a stock cat and a dun up auto , and from standing start i smash him , but rolling starts he stays side by side and i have to use the auto like a manual changing at 5500rpm every gear , if i dont then he gets in front , i just dont get it myself , these 6 bangers go pritty good
