Found these on ebay
New 18" 235/40 18 Nankang NS2 UHP Tyres - eBay Tyres, Wheels, Tyres, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 31-Mar-09 00:00:44 AEDST)
Just wondering what sort of quality these tyres are as they seem like a good deal. Im was dead keen on Falkens, but the load ratings to low for me. Am i better of with some Kumhos, or these Nexens (Brand New 235-40-18 NEXEN Performance Tyres Quality!! - eBay Tyres, Wheels, Tyres, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 27-Mar-09 19:30:00 AEDST)) or suggest me something else!
Cheers

go for dunlop tyres, no road noise and reasonably priced
I couldn't avoid it but when i bought my VZ SV6 last may, it had Nankangs on (235/45 R17 94V)
In ur case i would say no dont get them, there a hard compound tyre which have outstanding grip in the dry but that is a totally different story in the wet, very little grip at in the wet, if u have t/c its useless with these tyres on.
The Blue One
Nankangs are an ok cheap tyre, as said above great in dry, ass in wet
I have 20" (20x30x235) tyres on the WH statesman, & yes the compound is hard.
Takes ages to soften up to reduce the noise & lose the 'lumps'.
If they had told me that when i brought them i wouldve gone with i diff brand
i love nankangs but at the moment i have the 15s the seem to last ok with the locker and there is no noise with myne
You have to be cautious with Nankangs, there's 2 types, on is 95H rated and the other is a higher rated 'V' or 'Y'.
Obviously the H isn't as good and is where a lot of the Nankang complaints come from. This only applies to 18" size and smaller I believe. I have 19" nankangs and they are a bit skatey on the rear in the wet, but more than adequate in the dry.
Iv got 235/45 18s on the front of my vt.. and they are great tyres.. no noise, last good. real grippy wet or dry and for 160 each fitted how can ya complain?
running 235/45 18 kuhmos on the back they were 190 each fitting at toyo tyres in munnopara theyre whats going on the front next.. super grippy tyre
I've got a set on my VT, havent had any problems with them. Am going to be putting a brand new set on very soon aswell as i see no reason to spend mega $$ on tyres when these grip well around corners, go good from a start and stop adequately.

I've got Dunlop Sports Maxx on the SS at the moment, and I'm pretty impressed by them. You can barely tell the difference between wet and dry, and you'll struggle to spin them, even in the wet unless you're trying. About $250-300 a corner on 18's.

Dont waste your money on them. Tyres like this should be banned for sale. They are shit at stopping, are horrendous in the wet etc.
Buy decent rubber, after all you get what you pay for...anyone who says these tyres a good are either on drugs or have never used decent rubber.

obviously some must be good..
Because the ones i run on the front are damb good tyres in the wet.. i can hit large puddles and have no effect just keeps going
It's quite easy to make a tyre which doesn't aquaplane, you just put huge grooves down it, but to make a tyre which has lateral grip in the wet, wears well, and also has good comfort/noise levels is a challenge. It's really about the rubber compound they use, more than the tread design.
I've had Yokohamas, which score well in the wet grip and comfort, but wear very quickly and cost a lot, Nankangs which are cheap, grip poorly (esp in wet) and have average comfort and wear characteristics, Kumhos, which are similar to Nankangs, Nexens, which were only slightly better than RE92's, and most recently the Dunlops, which aren't quite as comfortable as the Yokos, but are much more consistent across the wet/dry, but cheaper and seem to wear better.
You mostly get what you pay for with rubber.

cant complain from my point of view
i had them on the front when i brought my VT and "wanli" tyres or something like that on the back and both were terrible in the wet and the noise they made was annoying....i now have dunlops on all 4 and its A LOT better, as people said you get what you pay for, these were 235/45/17's

Pfft. If you feel that you need to spent $250+ a tyre to have something "good" underneath you then you are deluded. As i stated. The Nankangs i have on my car have lasted 15,000km's that i've had the car for. In that time, they've been more than adequate for day to day driving, wet road, dry road, greasy road. It doesnt matter, they've performed to the standard of any other tyre i've driven on in the past.
If you just want the wank factor of saying you've got the most expensive tyre money can buy, and that keeps you sleeping soundly at night then that's fine. But if that ignorance gets in the way of open mindedness then you're a fool, plain and simple.

Tyres are not something you skint on especially when you need to stop in a hurry, that extra money could mean a full 1-2 seconds better stopping time, which could mean your life.
Anyway, use what you want though, the guy asked opinions not what you thought was wank factor.

As stated earlier, you get what you pay for, you pay little, you get little, given the fact that the rubber wrapped around the stupidly big rims that morons have on cars these days is the only contact between the road and the car, and as a DIRECT RESULT OF BEING THE ONLY PART OF THE CAR IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD, effect braking, steering, accelerating, why skimp out and run rubbish on the car, cause it helps you do hektic burnouts uleh or because understeering into a gutter in the wet makes you feel like a man???
Nankang are rubbish tyres, always have been, always will be, the only thing that they are good for is hektic burnouts at macca's on a friday night to impress the high school virgins...
Would you like to back those comments up with some statistics? Or are you just going to make claims on other peoples claims? I've read plenty of reviews and as far as Nankangs go for tyre performance, sure you could do better, but you could do a hell of alot worse aswell.
This is a thread about Nankang tyres. Nankangs are fine for what they are. Day to day driving, they perform as you would want them to. If you're going to take them out onto the track and try to match them against a $300 a piece tyre, ofcourse they're not going to stack up well. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
