go to qld transport and ask them for a temp rego thingy, they will give you a permit, you need to paya small fee and they issue you with a temp rego for a total of 1 day, between 6am and 6pm, this will alow you to get a road worthy, (by driving the car there) and alow you to get it to the qld transport office so they can check it, but ring up qld transport first, and talk to them
cheers

bloody hell!, in canberra you have a total of three weeks of permit for like $14 pw, not too shabby.
You can get a permit for longer than a day. There is also provision for driving the vehicle for the purpose of obtaining a roadworthiness certificate. Check with Qld Transport re the exact legislation requirements.
Never drive it to anywhere in connection with obtaining an roadworthy certificate without the vehicle being booked in for the work to be done (as proof of why you were driving it) if you get pulled over by Police.
i had to register a car last year and i was told i had to take the car on a trailer or tow truck to get the initial roadworthy
then when everything was fixed i could drive the car to the mechanics & then to Qld transport.
providing i had purchased at least 6 months CTP first & had a completed registration application form.
all this had to be done on the same day (couldn't buy the CTP the day before)
took it to Qld transport paid the money & got the plates
and no one even looked at the vehicle
