    Default choosing the right oil?

Hey guy's, i'm currently doing a few things here and there on my car, and soon on the list is another oil change. Now i can't remember what oil used last time, but when i bought it, i was told not to use Synthetic , and to use a thicker oil, due to the age of the motor, and that too thin of an oil could leak from somewhere ( can't really remember all of what i was told)

Anyways, i've been doing some reading, and all i can gather, is that a thinner, synthetic oil, will increase fuel economy, help the engine to run cooler, and reduce power friction loss. But it say's nothing about not being suitable for an older motor. Can someone shed a little more light on this for me, as i'd like to use a good quality Synthetic oil this time around,( if possible ), and any reccomendations would be great too.

    Motor is a V6, with 190,000

castrol magnatec, i use it in all cars i work on except my gen 3, was using full synthetic but now use a mineral oil for it, but yeh any other car castrol magnatec 10-40 you can get i think it is now, used it in my vr v6 commodore that was around 184,000km's when i sold it and last serviced it, use it in my sisters toyota corolla thats done 227,000km's now, good oil, semi-synthetic, you don't need a full synthetic.

the magnatec is $30-$40 for a 5 liter container and is top oil.

and too thin an oil can leak past the piston rings and get burnt out through the exhaust/engine.

I run Penrite HPR 30 (20W-60), Recommended for engines which were originally specifed 20W-50, coincidentally the V6 . Im also a fan of Penrite oils so its not biased.

Mate I and someone else I know had a bad experience with castrol magnatec.
His and my car had blocked pickups.
I had a good handful of sticky carbon crap in the bottom of the sump.
After fix I did oil flush as in dropped oil out, added cheap oil, ran engine till hot, dropped out oil, changed filter put in good old 20w50.
And do 5000k oil and filter changes.
Holden oil I use it is made by Fuchs good oil.
    195000K on my engine.
If you put in a brand new motor mybe go synthetic.
No offence to others using magnatec I just don`t like it.
