Default riding round the country, p plates.

Hey again... getting used to seeking the wisdom here.

I'm looking at spending my tax return on a nice holiday somewhere east of adelaide, as u might of seen in my other post, just got my fist commie, now i know it says in each state you still conform to the conditions of your license, however i was wondering if any interstate conditions mainly the license restrictions in the eastern states will affect me.

I'm on SA issue p plates, my ride features a catback exhaust so you can see where some of my worry is coming from, im guessing interstate the cops should know the differance from my plates, i've been told by the cops here not to display my P plates on the externals of the car and from what i've read it would be best to get another set and put them next to each of my number places on the car just to avoid any issues.

Anywho im a total noob at travelling interstate, i've left SA once in the last 7 years and it was only because victoria was on fire, so im not too familiar with interstate law and conversions, advice for dealing with authorities or whatever.

    cheers guys

*edit* just so i dont get flamed, im not a revhead... my expertice is mainly with tech systems and that kind of stuff, i've only modded the cars audio, the car use to belong to a mate of mine who did a fair few mods to it, all of them legal here, and its on gas anyway, just wanted to clarify on the catback as P plate modders have a bad rep im not wishing to uphold

As you've been told, you follow your own license conditions including speed restrictions (i'm not up with the P2 system, do they still have a 100k limit? if so, thats your limit even in eastern states)

Might pay to buy another set of p plates, in the Vic colours, just incase you get an anal cop. Car mods wont effect you, unless the car is unroadworthy. You can be defected interstate, but you can't receive a fine for an illegally modified car since their licensing doesn't apply yto you.

isnt it illegal to use interstate plates?... because i cannot convert my license interstate, so therefore there is no conversion (i dont fit into red or green plates), red plates also prevent me driving at night.

I know i should be able to trust the police would see my numberplate says The backwater state, but if they are anything like the ones here, just pounce on me for seeing the letter P.

For instance if i move interstate, up until april I was on p2's, so i was meant to convert over to green P's then full license, was meant to get my full license this month, i got regressed for a light offense last year so got put on my p1's for 2.5 years, so if i go to another state even if im living there longer then 3months im still on my SA license until the 3 years is up.

You asked about a holiday. Moving interstate has a completely different set of rules. You only have a certain time limit to convert to the interstate licensing system, same with car registration.

Do not display victorian plates, leave your SA P-plates on, that is waht your licence is.
In Vic no P1 or P2 has speed restrictions, but that doesnt matter to him again, unless SA P-Plate licence has restriction, in which case he was to apply to them.

In Vic we dont have night driving restrictions at night either.

Correct me if Im wrong but SA doesnt have P1 and P2 do they?

At the end of the day you have nothing to worry about, drive exactly how you would in SA, except when you get to Melbourne, then remember dont indicate, change lanes abruptly cutting atleast 1 car off every time, or near side swipping someone. Blind spots are a complete myth in Melbourne, just wait for someone to honk at you then tailgate you for the next 15minutes. In Melbourne 80km/h zone means travel at 100km/h, and a 100km/h zone means travel at 80km/h. Remember those basic principals and you should be right, enjoy your holiday

SA has p1 and p2, p2's are exact same, you just dont get picked on by a cop unless u look like you should be a p plater (all it does is lets u take off p plates)

yeah and your licence stills looks like p1's (provisional driver's licence, in the red P's style)so you get the chat about p's plate before they relise to look at the back side which says "P2-P plates not required"

you follow YOUR states licensing rules and the road rules of the state your in.
if you are limited to 90kmh in your state and in another state the limit is 110kmh, you do 110kmh.
In Victoria we have 100kmh limit but that doesnt mean we have to do 100kmh when in another state and the limit is 110kmh.
thats like saying that only N.T people are allowed to do 140kmh and the rest of the country cant when they visit the N.T.

but dont forget in South Australia im allowed to do 100km's on P2's right, if the road speed limit is 110 im still only allowed 100 and if i go into Victoria im only doing 100km's too even if the road sigh says 110km's

Just stick to your state's rules and you can't get in trouble regaurdless of which state your in because your licence is in your home state

Incorrect about the speed limit. Its by the license.

Your suggesting that a Provisional drive who is still learning should be able to do 200 in the NT (going by the old rules before they put in speed limits).

The restriction is on the driver, just as an SA L plater cannot exceed 80, even on the open highway. Hazard for other motorists? Yes, but thats what THEY are governed to.

when i had my 240 defected by the dogey cop at the start of this year, he didnt KNOW what p2's were and proceeded to try and book me for it, had to show him on the back where it said what p2 conditions where. After that he figured he was there so he'd makeup some defects lol.
