Hey everyone, just wanna know what I'd have to do if I buy a car from another state, things I know I'd have to do is get the plates and rego changed to SA's ones but anything else?
Cheers.
pretty sure the car will need to be taken over regency to make sure everything is roadworthy.
I just bought a VN SS from NSW (I live in Adelaide).
I thought it would have to go over the pits but I rang Regency and they said that all it needs is a vehicle identity check.
So you take it to Regency and they check out the VIN number, Engine number etc. If they are happy that the car is not rebodied etc they will give you a certificate and then you go to the other section of Regency and transfer the rego to SA and get your new plates.
There is no road worthy inspection however if there is anything that stands out expect to get told to fix it first.
There is no need to book it in. You just turn up at the Vehicle Identity Assessment Station and wait in line.
Here are all the contact numbers for Regency.

Just want to let those know, who, from reading the above posts assume 'regency' means regency.
The Vehicle inspection station is in the suburb of regency, about 3 streets away from where you get a defected car inspected. So its NOT where you take your car over the pits 'anymore'. So VL Berlina's warning is invalid.
Has been a separate location for at least 2 years now, when i took a friends car from work, and my car about a year ago.
You should make sure nothing stands out on the car, the VIS guys are REALLY pedantic about front tint, so if you think it might be too dark, just rip it off. If nothing stands out here, you can rego it as soon as you finish the inspection. Keep in mind they can request a full inspection if they feel they need to. Never heard of it happening tho.
Cost me i think $120 (can't remember exactly, was exactly a year ago) for the identity check, and then just your normal rego costs. Also, you can't transfer interstate rego, you can however, get a refund from that states transport authority (assuming its a large amount and was a deciding factor of buying the car)

cost is $46 dollars for the inspection and that is added to your rego when you pass along with the cost of new plates etc , nothing to serious took my clubsport thru about amonth ago and only had issues with the front tint
