    Unhappy Parking damage

I hate parking at shopping centres etc. As much as I avoid it, today I had to take my 25 year old, unmarked VK Commodore to a well known shopping centre. Upon my arrival, I parked as far away from any other vehicles, leaving plenty of vacant spaces around me. When I returned, I find a Jackaroo 4 wheel drive parked next to it, with the drivers door wide open hard up against the side of my Commodore's rear door. The driver was looking under his seat looking for something. Anyway, I call out to this man and said "do you realise your door is touching my car?". After looking at me, as if I was from another planet, he finally moved his door back and there it was, a scratch at the exact spot. I said to him, " you have scratched my car and it is going cost me to fix this". He just gave me the blank look and said " there's nothing you can do". He then walked around the other side of his vehicle, carried on whatever he was doing before hand and just pretended nothing happened. The only thing I could do was take his rego number and leave. What rights do we car lovers have against these ignorant reckless people ?

You should have exchanged details with him, insurance and stuff. Seriously if he refused to give his details you should have blasted him. Stand up for yourself, people do damage to your property then they should/have to pay.

Having kids of my own, I always supervise them and if the parking is tight, I make sure I put my hand in between the door and the car parked next to us. My wife's Camry is 7 years old and the sides of it are absolutely hammered from shopping centre car parks. I am just so angry.

you got his rego... he damaged your car, and you were there to witness it.

Take it to the police and make a report... who knows, he might even get pinned for leaving the scene of an accident, or not providing details etc.

Its exactly the same as someone reversing into you and putting a scratch in your bumper

People have no respect for another persons property.. they dont realise that to many of us a car is the most expensive thing we own and our most prized possesion, they just dont care

best of luck anyway bud.. hopefully the bastard is helf accountable

yeah i decided 2 rip off all my ss stripes on my car where ppl have hit there door on it and taken chunks of the sticker off.

1 incedent i saw was some wanker in a beema hit his door on this P platers vn when the P plater was in it. The P plater got out and told the guy 2 pay 4 the chip, it was a fair chunk missing on a blue car, the guy in the beemer said no u have no proof i hit ur car and its ur word against mine. So the P plater opened up his passenger side door, got a good grip and opened the door as fast and as far as the door will go in2 the beema leaving a massive dent lol. I just pissed myself laughing and walked off.

yeh that's so wrong, regardless of anything, like age of the car, its still your property.

once i was out with my family one night and my little brother (6) swung his door wide open and left a huge dint/scratch on this brand new 350z,

we could have left, but we knew how bad it would feel if it was our car, you just cant do that to people, we found the owners in the restaurant, they were annoyed, but happy that we were going to pay.

I had a wanker in a 88 fairlane parked next to me nearly scrape the side of my statesman last night ,because he decided to turn full lock out of the car park instead of reversing back a little bit ,he must of missed my car by an inch

I got his rego number and if I ever seen it again which I always usually do sooner or later ,he will get a free custom pin stripe up the side of his car

hahahahaha! totally wrong but hilarious. He should have walked up to another person and got a witness statement, from you for example. Rather than smashing his door into the BMW. still, hilarious though.

I don't know if the cops will be interested, particularly if there was less than $200 damage done. I would call my insurer with the guys details but again the excess might be worth more than the job is worth.

And I thought I was the only one who parked up the furthest end of the carpark and walked three mile to the shop! I absolutely HATE carparks for this very reason and this hasn't even happened to me yet. Good luck man and keep us posted.

everyones talking about shopping center car parks... spare a thought for those of us who have to park in a uni car park, full of people who have only just got their licence, and other people who just generally cant drive or park... You're pretty much putting your life on the line every time you drive in there

Ive found a couple new 'door dints' and a few little scrapes here and there... i just get there as early as possible and park in the last spot in the line, and then get a friend of mine to park next to me

I know this all too well!
Just before i picked up my car, it recieved a respray on all panels but the roof...to look at it now you would never know!!
5 years of retail work in a shopping center, and 4 of those also being left in a tafe carpark...the doors and quarter panels look very average!!
people just dont care! they swing their cars doors open without looking or caring, scratch along the panels as they walk past, and shopping trolleys that get left everywhere but in the MANY trolley bays will eventually find themselves smashing into the side of a car. Then there is the oldies that open the door onto another car, then use the door as leverage to heave themself out of the car, not only taking a nice chunk of paint but also pushing the panel in!
Sooooo many people also suck at parking, swinging their car everywhere, having no idea what they are doing, and then pretend it never happened when they hit another car, just driving off knowing they will never be caught!

The problem is avoiding people like this, you can park anywhere and will still follow you. Even worse park too far away and bits of your car, or the whole thing start going missing!

Another 4wd driver. same happend to my vt but it left a mass dint on the driver door just missing the mirror and my guess is that it would have broken the mirror off if he got it. not letter left no car there.

i remember one time years ago when i was in primary school getting picked up by my dad, he was sitting in his car ( fairly new Vt acclaim ) and some dumb abo in some shitter of a car tries to park next to him and basically scraped the side of our car trying to park his car, he wasnt going fast or anything this guy just had no idea how to park obviously. i was so shocked when this guy then reversed out causing more damage, i bet my dad was hell pissed at the time.
