cranking problems

parents have a 97 El falcon and its having cranking problems. the engine always kicks over, but sometimes it has trouble. if it starts ok the first time for the day, u leave it and go to start again not long after (30mins-whenever) then it will crank and crank and crank then start with a shake then idle back to normal- occassionally it will shake violently and u can see the tacho moving up and down. just wondering what it might be and how to check what it is? cheers

Does it only happen when you start the car?
My mum owns a Ford Falcon AU and her car started shaking when she started her car up, acouple days later it also started shaking when you put your brakes on to slow down.

Checked over everything but i couldnt put my finger on what it was, checked the power steering fluid and it was near empty. Topped it up and it never shook again.

if it shakes when u put ur foot on the brake then u need new pads :P. but the shaking is only occasional after the engine is started. just the starting problems that i need to rectify
