Hi guys/gals
Im going to try and make this short and simple.
I bought some new front rims for my car they are 18x8 advanti racing rims.
Im now looking at getting some interceptors for the back ( i know cop magnet bla bla ).
I have herd that it is all legal as long as they are only 2 inch diffrence.
So do i need to get 16" at the back?
By the way i have not gone for a RWC yet.
The tyres on the car now are all crap and i dont want to buy new tyres for these rims because they are shit and i already bought new rims.
never heard of that b4 lol maybe cause im in SA. I didnt think it would b a problem if the size of the diamiter was the same
Wrecking VL factory V8 only a few bits left still have full dash/crash pad
and have a vk 202 motor and 5 speed Make an offer want it gone
I think you will find that the 2 inches difference that you speak of will be in regards to the width. So you can have 18x8 at the front and 18x10 at rear for example. As far as I am aware, unless it came approved from the factory with different diameter rims, I believe that you cannot have different diameter rims on the front and rear.
Im sure you might get away with it, or sneak under the radar so to speak if you were getting the exact same rim style/design with only an inch difference in diameter front to rear, But going for 18 inch rim front and a 16 inch at the rear....well I would be worried that if you had an accident, or got pulled over, then that would be an easy pick for any officer to spot.
Hmm ok, so you say the diameter has to be the same on front and back. God i hope thats wrong, if its not then i just bought 2 new rims for nothing. And i dont think they make interceptors 8" wide![]()
Width isn't normally the issue. Hard to tell if you have different width rims, whereas the diameter is more important. There are many cars that come from the factory with different width rims, but I can't say that I have ever taken notice or seen any that come with different diameter rims front to back....I could be wrong but can't specifically remember an example.
OK thanks. I dont see no harm in having 18" on front and 15" on the rear. I might run down to a mechanic that does roadys and ask him.
I don't see any harm in having an engine in my VL with over 500hp, but Im sure if i was to go to the nearest police station and pop the bonnet, they may have an issue lol![]()
its u cant increase the track width more than 25mm; say 7" standard you can only go to 8" wide legally
and there is some discrepancy (sp?) here: some read, must be similar rolling diameter. others, its 2 sizes larger than standard, so 15" standard, max 17" new. obviously you can get 18's engineered. Your states RTA website has all the details.
as far as having 18's on the front and 15's on the rear, u will look suss and yes copbait comes to mind![]()
its fun driving around with stockies on the bak. Cops think beauty we have 1, then they look and see the tyres are brand new![]()

Ok so i think i get it now, you can go only 1.5 inch width more then the stock ones? please correct me if im wrong..
You said yesterday that you were going down to the mechanics that do roadys! A few of us have said what we think. So instead of hearing more differing opinions on here, which everyone isn't going to think or believe the same, why not go to the mechanic and he can tell you straight up what is correct according to the law.
