Another Exhaust Question

Hi all.

Tried to search it but nothing came up.

My questions is...


I want to remove my rear muffler but still keep it legal.

I have a 2.5" cat back with a resi and rear muffler.

Is it even possible to remove the muffler and still be legal? and if so...

Does anyone know how many DB's i need to stick to? And how would I test the DB?

Also would removal of the rear muffler give more power and reduce weight?

It's not that loud at all with the resi and muffler.

My bro in law's VS has the same setup without the muffler and it sound's quite loud but he's never been asked about it. (it also passed roadworthy somehow)

The legal limit for db in Vic is 90b, tested at 2/3rd of max RPM on the manufactured vehicle. With the changes of this law many stock cars are now illegal...go figure, smart government and epa eh?

I took it down to the exhaust bloke today and he deadset advised me against it.
Said when he fitted it he fitted a high flow resi and high flow muffler and if he removes the muffler there would be too much drone in the car and turn it into cop bait.

I don't have an aftermarket exhaust system but my rear resonator has been cut out, so its just a straight pipe.

im getting a redback sport system fitted 2mro morning with one highflow muffler and thats it 2.5 too btw want me to let you know how loud it is?

oi thats F****N sick,im doing that as soon as i get back to school and i can get on the mig, sounds so good, i know its illegal but if you cut the miffler off at the diff so it dumps down it growls then screams at high revs sounds so good, i gto defects last friday night for my CAI and tires but the stupid cop dident see the exhaust
