hi there.
as many people do ive currently had the itch for more power out of my 96 vs.
after little research ive seen many options including raptors and vortex's and all the rest but think i want to go with the slightly cheaper version in a l67 m90, probably one straight out of a vt/vx wreck or something
i have a couple of questions that i am wanting answers that i couldnt find in any back issues of street commodores
1. what would a complete setup cost me for everything i need?
2. would my current ecotec with 290,000kms be able to handle the extra power? (after all the l67 was a factory charger)
3. how much would it cost in labour to get this thing fitted?
4. what kind of power do these things posess?
thankyou
To answer some of your questions, i have a VT supercharged and the output it gives before modifications is about 175kw for S/C as standard its about 148@5,200 rpm, for the M90 kit on ebay you can get most of the set-up for about $650 plus, As far as labour to install i reckon it would be cost abit by a mechanic to get the hole thing up and running again.Cost all up i'd say 2-3,000+ but thats just a guess..hope this helps.Like TVR said there's more to it than just dropping a charger on top.

ive got a bolt on charger for a vs and the complete motor all it needs is is to be rebored and gasket kit then ready to go also have the computer which is chipped for the chatger if u r interested.
Its not just a matter of buying the charger and sticking it on with the m90. I can't remember what the differences are but there are quite a few and it is easier and possibly even cheaper to just buy a complete engine

found out all i pretty much need to know. would be great to have a slightly more acurate figure on proformance advantages though. cheers guys
oops forgot to ask also wopuld the current transmission be upto the job or would it be time to replace the old one?
In the VS the ecotec produced 147kw. The L67 in the VS produced 165kw. Thats at the flywheel. Certainly not record breaking figures by any means.
The standard transmission would be fine. In my opinion it would be better off to sell your existing car and buy a factory fitted L67. Less hassle.
Some of the differences for the L67 include:
Cylinder heads (Injectors fitted into the head, not the manifold)
Cooling system is completely different
Bigger injectors
Slightly bigger torque convertor
Different fuel pump in the tank
Modified pistons
This is just off the top of my head....
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
ppl shouldnt forget to add about $1000 to prepare the heads, machine 6 new injector ports and then skim the face surface. Not worth the hassle
