ey guys my missus is going to trade in her vt commodore and getting an r33 skyline...
was curious as to whether there is a HUGE difference in power/acceleration between the auto and the manual, because she does like manuals but hates constantly changing gears (she drives around the city 5 days a week). We went for a test drive in an r33 manual and the power it delivered was amazing, i was in the passenger seat and was like wow.
does the auto still give decent power?
Thanks, Shane
p.s. i wasnt sure where to post this so if ive put in the wrong spot mods please move
personally i wouldn't get a automatic skyline because the prices of them keep dropping. Buy a manual as it'll hold its price a little better.
BUT i've been in a mates auto series 1 r33 and it still goes pretty hard with only basic mods
power will be down a little obviously, but the advantage with autos is that you keep the turbo spooled between gear changes.
this isnt offical or anything just is just IMO
ive driven both Auto and Manual and yeh the manual is better but the auto still has a fair bit of power to it
i personally enjoyed driving an auto r32 over a manual r33 just holding onto the steering wheel and putting the foot down and let it do the work for u they have a power button just like commodores and when you put your foot down they hold to around 6500-7000 then shift. Its not a huge difference between power not if ur driving it responsibly anyway![]()
I've driven fast cars I've done stupid shit in them each time i seem to come out on top i love you guardian angel
vp ss 3 months to go
The autos have torque management that limits power on the shifts. The converter also chews a tad of power too so if it's a stocker the power sap would be noticeable. Nothing a $60 boost tee can't fix

ahh cheers fellas ill let her know
Thanks, Shane
manual FTW!!!
Get the manual mate, forget the slushbox.
For all 8 cylinders...
I say if she drives in the city 5 times a week then i wouldnt consider the manual.
The real question is, if you're getting a sports car, why the hell would you get an auto?!
I've been doing peak hour runs in a manual for years, can't say it bothers me in the slightest. When you've been driving manual for a while you don't even think about changing gears, it becomes 2nd nature.
An auto Skyline is a waste of a car IMO.

You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
Auto Skylines are the just biggest fails.
My brother has an auto R33... probably not the sharpest tool in the shed but anyways...
I've driven it, and it's still got some power. Can't comment on the manuals cos a) haven't driven one and b) can't drive manual :P
A clutch is just a glorified foot rest anyway :P lol
