hey guys, just about got some vx s-pack seats in my VR. they are black and red, so im doing a black and red interior theme, with the most of the interior being black, and the little add ons (door handles, dash, etc etc) are going red.
i know about using vinyl dye and clean and plastic primer and that for the most of the plastics.
i was wondering if anyone know if i could spray the carpet, roof lining, pastrol shelf black?
i assume it can be done with just basic spray, but i was just wondering if anyone had some feedback on this.
cheers.
yes you can use vinyl dye on carpets![]()
where do i buy vynal dye?
places like repco, super cheap auto, autobahn should sell them. vht is the best brand
HOOD LINING AND PARCEL SHELF 'MAY' BE OK BUT THE PAINT ON THE CARPET WILL WEAR OFF EVENTUALLY. (oops CAPS)... I'd probably use the vinyl paint as from memory it is thinner and will penetrate the fabric better.
vinyl dye is made for carpet aswell as vinyl and plastics. heres a pic of the can. you will notice it says carpet so you will be sweet
so i would spray the roof lining amd parcel shelf with vinyl dye. would never do it with basic spray paint...
thank you SO much guys, im going to do buy 5 cans and some shine, should coem up great once i get these vx seats in lols.
thank you very very much for your time.
Please don't spray your interior, It'll stink, Colors will rub off, It'll make carpet/anything with fibre feal corse, Getting it even on fibre fabrics is almost impossible...
How about you pay $140 for new Plush loop pile carpet, Re-trim your roof lining, parcel shelf, etc etc etc. Do it the proper DIY way, Not the cheap DESTROY YOUR INTERIOR way.
Because Once you **** it up & waste money & put up with the smell & everything else, You'll realise what you've done was a mistake.

ahh thanks for the help, i enquired about the carpet and the roof lining, i can get black roof lining for 100$ and carpet for 140, pastrol shelf i can do myself properly with some materials from spotlight, so thats taken care of lols.
last thing i was is a smelly car! LOL
Its not that bad, the vinyl dye sprays pretty direct, I did an old gemi that I couldn't care less how it turned out and it ended up 100%. You could only tell in the bits where I was lazy and didnt tape up the interior light and rear window a bit. The smell goes away after a few day or maybe weeks but it cost me about $100 and one day. Instead of $180 carpet $150 R/L $100 parcel shelf and trimming all the little bit like seat belt reel covers. The dash actually came out the best.
The carpet feeling corse isnt he case if yoy do more light coats than one thick one.
itd be a better idea to buy the roof lining and carpet as some stated. but either one u do will turn out good if you do it right. whatever you do DON'T put a gloss coat on once u vinyl dye ur dash, the sun will hit it and u wnt be able to see out of ur windscreen.
goodluck mate,
post some pics wen you do it![]()
vinyle dye is DYE. so it soaks into the material. it is nothing like spray paint. so colours don't rub/flake/scratch off as it is soaked into the actual material its being used on.
also to the thread starter, if u can, take the parts out u want to spray of the car spray it in a garage or something leave it out for a day or 2. then put it back in and it wont smell. but leave it out for atleast a day to dry
when dying carpet u should brush all the fibers one way before applying a light coat, the once dry brush the fibers the other way then do another light coat...after this is dry u can brush the fibers 90degrees from the first, then again in the opposite direction.....4 light coats like this should ensure good all over penetration.....but for an entire carpet I'd just go buy the plush loom molded carpet meself
ive just bout finished doing mainly what adriianz has done but i used acrylic paint for all the plastic bits in the car and layed new carpet down and re did the hoodlining it looks awesome and the new carpet feels great especially on the feet haha the problem i have is everything is black in my car now but the seat belts are that ugly dull grey colour.. can i use the vinyl die on them? id assume so but thought id ask if not what would best die the seat belts permanently black? cheers
i done this to my other car i used the plasic stuff then i changed to engine enamal as it was beetter for the dash and didnt flake off
