I have lived in Melb all my life..and paid rego for the last 35 years...I just want to have a whinge about how shit the inner city roads are..instead of getting better..they are getting worse...when they work on the roads..they dont seem to be able to fill in a pot hole and make it smooth...the speed bumps are a joke and just make the average driver pissed off..major road works seem to take forever..when you drive past them...you see 2 blokes working...its a ****ing joke...and in these times where the roads are busier that ever...the traffic is moving slower than ever...for Christ sake...do the people responsible for roads..and traffic in this town...ever actually drive on them!!...
Try driving on the Monash Freeway. While yes its great to have an extra lane, theyve made an absolute dick of a couple of the lanes with massive groove marks which cause you to either tram track all over the shop or cause an insane amount of road noise. On top of that theres the Monash Speed Bump. Hitting it at 100 k's is not pleasant.
I was in Melbourne on the weekend, to say you guys are lucky is a massive understatement. You have the smoothest roads in the state and get most of everyones money to build them. So I wouldn't complain too hard. However the new bypass section of freeway between Geelong and Melbourne is shiiiiit, rough surface country syle. I mean it's still better than the roads here but for a road that close to the city is unsually crapy. In the end as bad as you might think the roads are, they are worse outside the city so in that light they are good. No doubt they are rubbish compared to European roads
I have lived in SYD all my life..and paid rego for the last 15 years...I just want to have a whinge TOO about how shit ALL the roads are..instead of getting better..they are getting worse...they DONT work on the roads..they dont seem to be able to fill in a pot hole and make it smooth...the speed bumps are a joke and just make the average driver pissed off..major road works seem to take forever..when you drive past them...you see 12 blokes NOT working...its BEYOND a ****ing joke...and in these times where the roads are busier thaN ever...the traffic is moving slower than ever...for Christ sake...do the people responsible for roads..and traffic in this town...ever actually drive on them!!...

I FEEL YOUR PAIN BROTHER...
I AM SICK OF DAMAGING RIMS FROM FRIGGEN POTHOLES.![]()
here they just fill the potholes with rocks mixed with tar.
you still get that awfull bumpy feeling with the extra tar to remove from your paint.
NSW/QLD are FARRR Worse mate i drove my stato up to qld earlier in the year and by comparison they a bloody terrible, as soon as we hit the border to Vic there is a noticeable improvement imo
went to south aus they got great roads over there compared to vic they are shit as hell
Lol - I have driven to and around most of Australia except for the far North West and Tasmania. In the main, Melbourne drivers have **nothing** to complain about as far as road quality is concerned when comparing to other states.

Agree with Reap, we probably have some of the best roads in the country. I think Brisbane win the worst, no one should have to use to pay that shithouse freeway, in fact the skank running the state should be paying road users to use it.

If you don't like the roads, get a job as a roadworker and try and make a difference. Not all roads can be smooth and nice to drive on. Shit happens. Break off a piece of the road, and eat it
I'm sure the roadworkers do drive on the roads, they just don't whinge about them, as it probably doesn't bother them that much.

we have a VERY good road system and in my opinion it's not bad at all even the ones with bumps arent that bad.
if your seriously complaining about a few bumps... maybe hand your license in?
just suck it up and keep on driving.
Whilst I agree with the fact that Melbourne's roads are on average better than the roads of any other Major city in Australia, I do have to grant ascottaudio his point. The condition of the roads in and around Melbourne is getting worse! It could be due to resources being diverted to major projects over recent years, like Eastlink, the Monash and Westgate upgrades, but I still think something has to be done about the "indifferent nature" displayed by our road "workers".
Why is it that when you drive through roadworks you rarely see any actual work being done? There's warning signs everywhere, there's plastic bollards and witches hats from here to the horizon, flashing lights, and of course "temporary" speed limits. As you crawl through the site your curiosity is peaked, "I wonder what they are doing here?", you ask yourself. You see plenty of cigarettes and an inordinate amount of mobile phones in use, but where's the man with the shovel? Ahh there he is... leaning on it with a coffee in the other hand. Where's the actual work?
One particularly annoying bout of road "work" just ended near my house. It took more than 18 months to install a set of traffic lights. 18 months! It was only a small set, nothing overly elaborate. Why?
Why do we have to suffer delay after delay for weeks on end for what usually amounts to a few days work? Don't these work teams have supervisors? Who are they accountable to? Nobody it would appear!
I don't know about anyone else, but I've had about enough of it. We need to take action en mass and make some long needed changes!
These "workers" need to be pulled into line, they need to be provided with proper leadership and regular performance reviews. It's blatantly obvious that they can't be bothered, and they don't care how many they inconvenience with their lack of productivity.

You must fall into one or more of these categories;
a) a roadworker
b) don't have a low profile tyres
c) don't have a car you particularly care about
d) haven't destroyed/damaged rims due to potholes/crap roads
e) don't frequent Sydney
f) a roadworker.
Seriously though (as above like thestig said) the problem isn't the roadworkers its the people in charge of them who need the kick up the a$$.
It is no wonder half the population drive 4x4's...
Now where'd I put the Kleenex...
hahaha, this thread is great timing...
The attached image was taken in the VicRoads car park yesterday... even they are not immune
aZk.
Oh theres some shocking ones out there. Go to Europe, proof roads can be smooth as a baby's bottom. Driving in Sweden was pure bliss.
I love the roads where theres been a pothole and theyve tried filling it up but theyve put to much in there and now its a speed bump. Quality work.
Just look at Nige/Skitzn, he cracked a rim on the Monash Freeway, hit the Monash Speed Bump, got home and his rim is splitting.
Lol - you have to also consider popuation density with such things There is no co-incidence that Vic has better roads than NSW and QLD. Our population and tax base is significantly higher than those other states per km of road. Most of Europe would in turn be a ton higher than us.

..... And in other news today a heavily armed gunman is on the run after a shooting rampage at an alleged road "work" site. Police have confirmed a number of council contractors were shot dead by the gunman who is believed to be a resident of the Frankston area. There have also been witness reports that several onlookers cheered enthusiastically as many motorists present took the opportunity to defile the corpses of the slain "workers" by driving over them. ......
I have considered it, and that's why I am harboring a certain amount of ill will towards the likes of those I pictured above in my previous post. I want what I paid for, or I want my money back!
