    Default Insurance quote rip off

My son had a small accident in May this year , this guy cut him off and he swerved to miss him and he clipped the car next to him . The driver he hit was ok about it and the damage was minor due to the slow speed they were both traveling at, just a small scrape on both the front and rear door ,and my son had small damage to the top of the front wheel arch .Well three month later he gets a quote for just over four thousand one hundred bucks.
Some of the items on the quote were replace front and rear door skin . wheel alignment to all 4 wheels . respray door mirror , remove and refit both rear tail lights , remove and refit front bar and the list goes on .
I rang up the other guys insurance and told them it was a bullshit quote and was not going to pay it . I told him that there was no way the door mirror could have been damaged or it would need a wheel alignment or both rear tail light need to be removed . The guy said that if we don't pay it they will take it to court so i said do it . Then he said something that i found a bit strange , He said ok , make us an offer of how much you want to pay and we might consider it which i thought was not right for a insurance company to say . So i told him i'm not paying a cent as it was a bullshit quote so he said fine and hung up .
Now my son has no problem paying for the damage as he said he done it and will pay for it but not $4ks worth.
I have uploaded a pic of the damage to my sons car.

    Contact your sons insurance company.

If your son does not have insurance...

Also, Was your son smart enough to take pictures of his car & the other car at the time of the accident?
Most people have camera phones and/or digital cameras.

    Cheers.

What probably happened was the other guy took the car to get repaired, the body shop knew it was an insurance job, then padded the **** out of the bill (as they always do), then gave it to his insurer, who have given it to you.

Best of luck with it all.

OK , my son has just got off the phone from his insurance co and they said the damage to his car couldn't have caused $4K damage to the other car unless he hit a BMW . His insurance co are going to also do a quote on the other car and he can have the option of paying the excess and get it fixed or he can pay it out of his own pocket so his insurance will not go up . The car he hit was a Suzuki. If the damage to the other car was on the drivers side why do they need to remove the left/ right hand tail lights when they were not even damaged ?

they would have quoted to paint the whole side of car to match colour, and they would have quoted to strip everything on every panel being painted eg. door handles moulds etc. was it a new or old suzuki as if it was a older model they might have wanted to write it off lol

It was a 2005 model , We all know that insurance companys include prices to remove and refit parts but they only mask them up , i guess they have to make their money some how.

Usually they dont repaint the entire side of the car, they just match the same panel.

I would go and find some quotes of your own, based on photos etc. They dont sound like a very good insurance mob if they are letting you offer what you want to pay...

Hang on, I'm confused. If your son is insured then why is the other persons insurance company chasing you for the money? One insurer deals with the other. That's why we pay them the premiums we do.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

My sons insurance co is AAMI and the other guy is with Shannons .The thing is that both these companies are affiliated.
The damage to the other car looked minimal so instead of paying the excess and going through the insurance co and being hit with a higher premium he was opting to pay for it .
We have now found out that the other guys insurance co authorised the repairs and the car has now been repaired

If they authorised the repairs, won't that mean his insurance have covered it and the guy has paid his excess?

Not sure how else they can authorise it

    unless he hit a BMW
even in the real world that would still have to be one hell of a hit on a BMW to cause $4k worth

    AAMI

Yes , thats what i was thinking . When i had my accident the isurance company wanted me to pay the excess ( even though i wasn't at fault ) to get the repairs done, then recoup it from the other driver . Needless to say i said no .

I hope your sons learnt a lesson from this. If someone puts you in a situation where they cut you off and you either evade them or hit them, just hit them, its thier fault and they will have to pay. I know its reflex too avoid them but try not too.

If the other insurance company has already done the repairs then I believe you are off the hook unless they have paid their excess and thier insurance company is going to start chasing you.

Personally I think the suzuki should be privileged to have been swiped by such a fine automobile :P

Good luck with the insurance company though.
