Hi Guys just wanted to know if you are allowed to have dark tint on the back coz i heard you can have it as dark as you want. I also got told it can only be 35% on the bak.
35% pretty sure all round

Commercial vehicles can have whatever they want on the rear and everything else has to be 35% (or so I am led to believe)
Just went to the cop shop and asked and he said it has to be 35% on the rear and 75% on the front or its a defect.
Sounds like a load of bull shit to me. Go into a tint shop and get the darkest legal tint which should be 35%.
It varies depending on state...

Well what do ya know.. SA is only 70%. Took me 30 seconds to Google it.. although I don't think the source is THAT reliable as I lifted it off of a window tint shops website.

SA is 70% front and 35% rears![]()
Police are not always correct, but its a bit much to call b/s on them when you have no idea what the legal requirements actually are for that state, so I think its best to go by what the police tell you, rather than someone interstate who does not actually know. But yes, 70% on front windows is the law in SA, and is strongly advised (whilst keeping 35% as the legal minimum) as the minimum in the vehicle guidelines for most other states.
I stand corrected. The thing I found interesting too is that according to the link I posted you can tint the front window..?
Also where would I stand if I had legal 35% tint on my ACT rego'ed car and was defected in SA?
All our work vans have heaps dark tint on the side and rear windows for security reasons. Its so dark its nearly black and can hardly see inside at all unless your standing 1inch away.
Australia. Love it or leave it
You can only tint certain sections of the front window, which is only the top 10% and provided the wipers do not reach it. Most cars have factory tint there anyway (where the front windscreen changes colour to prevent glare).
Police generally won't defect vehicles from another state for something that doesn't breach ADR, but they generally won't defect interstate vehicles full stop unless there is a major safety issue.
