Default Has anyone here put Walkinshaw mods on SV6?

    Hi I am new here.

Anyway I brought a Holden VE SV6 and I have been looking at the Walkinshaw performance parts that will work on a SV6. I have already been down to Walkinshaw P to see what I can do and how much. But I want to know has anyone here had WPP parts fited to an SV6 and was it worth it and do u have photos?

Anyway this is what I want to do.
    1) The Cold Air Induction, 2) the 2.5 catback Exhaust, 3) WPP V scoop (for the looks because I like the look on the HSV)

Anyway I am not looking for V8 power just a bit more power & I want to know what people think how a SV6 will look with a Scoop? good or not what do you think will it look good? & even better has anyone put the Scoop on a SV6 and do you have photos?

    Thanks Dave

Thanks for the reply how about the The Cold Air Induction & the 2.5 catback Exhaust do think it would be worth it? the induction to me looks cheap at $550 but they told me I will get about a 5kw bost and about the same for the Exhaust which is a bit over 2k do think it would worth doing or is there better prouducts out there? I was thinking about a getting the ECU recalibration done but WPP don't do the ECU for an SV6. & i am having a hard time finding a company that can do it. if anyone knows a good one please let me know thanks.

ehst type of CAI intake is it, thats roughly what youd pay for an aftermarket over the radiator CAI, same gain, exhaust sounds like a bit of a rip at 2k, then again i havent looked at ve exhausts, have a look on ebay to see what ve exhausts are going for. there are a few places that do alloytec tunes and they can yield fairly decent results from what ive heard.

Thanks I think I will go with thre WPP parts even if there are cheaper ones I just want the WPP parts because of all the work they have done with HSV & since a clubsport is just a more powerfull SS it should work well with most VE Commodores i think?. As for the ECU thats what i was thinking it should give a fair bit more power. That plus the Induction & the 2.5 catback Exhaust should give me the power that I want.

IMO I don't see the point of having a daily drive car with 500Hp for going to work & back I think if i can get to 200KwRW or over would be engouh for me as for a weekend car I would love 300-400KwRW but I think if i want that power I am better off buying a V8 to start with.

    1) Cai will give you minor power gain. Other than the placebo effect the power gain will hardly be noticable.
    2) Cat back - see 1)
    3) Bonnet Scoop - no performace gain what so ever. The extra weight and wind resistance would probably wipe out all of the gains in 1 & 2 or more.

Thanks for the advice I have been told by WPP they each should give me about 5Kw more so in total about 10Kw which is not much but I want to get the ECU done to but WPP don't do the ECU for an V6 only V8 but I am looking for a good place to get it done. Even if i get 10Kw more power i will be happy with that.

As for the Bonnet Scoop I know it has no performace gain but I like how they look on a VE clubsport. The only reason I want it is to give the car more of an aggressive look I think they look great on a clubsport but I am worried they might ruin the look of an SV6 because the front of the SV6 & SS look a little diff from an clubsport. its just once its on and done I am stuck with it for some time.

& if i don't like how it looks than I am not going to be happy driving the car so i need to see how it will look on a SV6 or SS 1st but anyway thanks for the advice.

$2.5k for exhaust and cold air for a 10kW gain is a bit of a waste of money in my opinion.

You might not even notice the difference, or if you do, you will become used to it in a few days.

    go for an ECU chip.

if they have them for the VE yet.

with a VT i know it's around the 10kw gain for around 150ish (VE will be more but less than $2500)

TURBO or SUPERCHARGE it, some people will say it's to much money but if you plan on keeping the car it would be worth it.

How much are Turbo or Supercharge going for? i went into a shop today & they said I would be looking at 9k-10k is that about right because right now that is to much for me.

right now I can spend up to about 5k

This might sound silly to some of you but I am new to this. But what is a Dyno tune? & does a Dyno tune on its own give you more power? also if I have a Cold Air Induction fitted should a Dyno tune be done Before or after its fitted?

Dyno tune: They will hook your ECU up to a realtime tuning program and adjust your tune in various ways to give you more power. It's pretty expensive, (usually around $1000, possibly more for VE's). On my VS Senator (5 litre 304) with a single 3" exhaust with a hot dog, factory HSV air intake, 70mm polished throttle body and Kalmaker realtime tune, my car didn't pick up kw's so much, but it picked up significant increase in torque and felt like a new car to drive (alot smoother and the midrange and top end power delivery picked up HEAPS).

Not sure how much of a benefit a dyno tune would be on an Alloytec V6, but on a V8, they are worth the cash IMO. And $2k for an exhaust is bullshit. You are simply paying for the Walkinshaw name there dude. With the cash you will pay for the air intake and exhaust, would not be worth the minimal power gain at all.

Hi thanks I found a place near me that will dyno for an SV6 for about $900 they also said about an side blower I don't know what that is but they said it would give the best boost for value for money i think he said about 5k for that. right now I can go as high as 5k but thats it for now. & @ axemurderer101 thanks I will look at the Supercharger kit I am thinking about supercharger might be the best why to go thanks.

Side blower (centrifugal): The superchargers you see bolted to a bracket on the SIDE on the engine, usually just where the airbox would sit. Looks kind of like a snailshell.

Top blower (positive displacement): Mounted ON the engine where the manifold would be.

$900 for a dyno tune isn't bad. Does the $5k for the blower include fitting and dyno tune? If not, try and get them to do it as a package to save a few bucks possibly.

@ Cobez The sideblower can be fited & tune for about 5k which sounds alright to me I might get that done thanks. As for the CAI every dyno shop I go to say that the CAI are a waste of money so i think the sideblower will be engouh for me thanks for all the advice. LOL next time I will just buy V8 to start with.

Ok thanks everyone for all your help but after looking around at Dyno shops & so on I find out there is nothing anyone can do for an 08 VE SV6 because there is no software for it right now. they can do it for an 06-07 VE but not for an 08 i don't know why but Holden changed the ECU.

So there is nothing I can do till they make the software & from what I have been told its going to be around late Dec or early Jan next year. That will give me more time to save up but by than i might i have engough money to just buy an SS or an second hand HSV to start with and sale my SV6. Anyway thanks for all the advice everyone I will let know how i go later in the year thanks

Sell it an buy a VY SS or something, then you should have some change left for some dyno work or a blower.

Hi Thanks I am going to wait till early next year to do something than plus by than I will have the money to buy an VZ clubsport which was 285Kw (@ the fly) or an early VE like an 06 modle which would have 307Kw at the fly right? my budget should still leave me with engough to get work done but like i said before I should of just brought an Clubsport to start with I would be a lot more happy now but at the time i was thinking about fule lol.

when i brought my SV6 i had all the other stuff put on it plus it still has low km its only around 8000km so i think i can still get a bit for it brand new there are going for 38k now anyway thanks
