Does anyone here run Premium in their vehicles? I was talking to a bloke the other day that says he runs all of his petrols on Premium instead of standard Unleaded. What is better about Premium fuel, does it make the vehicle run any better?
Premium is 95 octane right? And Unleaded is 91
does it run better? technicly its better, not outstanding in a performace way cus there tuned to 91, but i think wheels magazine says you get slightly better distance per tank
I always run premium in my VS with a foam tune, and I wouldn't go back to standard fuel.
Before the tune I had no problem using whatever was cheapest though

Yea, i only use premium fuel. Get better mileage on the tank and is cleaner burning. Means i dont have to go clean injectors as much.
when i first got my license i always put premium in but a week later fuel went to a 1.60 in victoria so that put a end to that for good...now its cheap but i cant be bothered
By premium I meant 95 octane. I don't use 98 except for special occasions, but it doesn't feel that much better

I try to only use ultimate but if I have to ill use mobile 8000, the engine seems to run smoother and I get much better efficiency if I go easy on the right foot.
Premium is usually 98. Most servos offer 95 as well as 91 which is your standard unleaded.
Its claimed you get better economy with Premium, as well as a cleaner burning fuel. I was actually reading the little sign next to the Mobile 8000 pump today and they also claim that it has a corrosion protection additive.

Usually premium is 98, middle is 95, and bottom is 91 but usually cut with 5% ethanol.

the Ecotec is tuned for 91 so it won't make any more power on premium. Unless it's a very hot day (so much that it causes the engine to knock on 91) you'll actually make LESS power on 95/98
I run 95 as i believe it is more consistent quality then 91.. As for getting better economy, it's a myth. People who claim that 98/95 did miracles for their economy either had a very bad batch of 91 previously or experienced a placebo effect by driving with a lighter foot or driving on more economical roads (freeway).

i used the good stuff in my car but i soon realised it dnt make much difference. my mum has an XR6 falcon and wen she uses it, her car goes heaps better. (acceleration, throttle response and feel) all improves. but my car dnt rely like it. oh well
for the first month of driving my car i used BP Ultimate because the car hadnt been driven for over a year so i thought it should run on good petrol to clean out the old crap stuff that was in the bottom of the tank but now i only put it 95 unless petrol is a bit cheaper and i would say that you do get better economy and a bit more power but in older model cars its harder to know but in my mums forester i noticed a major difference about 10 minutes after filling up the tank
I use BP 98, my car has been dyno tuned for it, if i use anything less, it might start pinging a bit.

Vortex 98. Like cobez, my car is tuned for 98 so that's what i run.
Always used BP Ultimate.... So can't really compare to anything else.
I always run BP Ultimate. Why? Tuned for it and has raised compression. To run anything less than premium invites bad detonation.

as per the other 43 threads on the same topic i use premium most of the time. In the old camry it meant more time between services, i have to use it in the Merc and the Captiva prefers it also. All three give better mileage and depending on my mood at times i feel there might have been a slight power increase. Generally not enough to notice with my foot.
Always run BP Ultimate 98 in the VX SS, really don't need to as they are tuned for 91,
but I guess I hope their claims of it being a cleaner fuel and supposedly keeping the injectors and fuel system clean are true.
I must admit it does run faultlessly and very smooth, never never had an issue with it.
I have to run 98 octane because of the chip.
If I use 95 it will chew fuel quicker and if I use 91 it will cough, splatter, have no power and guzzle fuel.
The VK always had premium, it would run-on if you used 91, Once I got rid of the EST I could have fixed that, but preferred to run it on Premium as it ran better and is the best substitute(sp) for leaded.
The Ute and VT just get 91, but I will never fill up from a servo that sells Ethanol based fuels, let alone use the shit.
