Hey guys, haven't been on here in a while, but have thought about buying a new (used) car early next year. Yes I know its still a while away, but I get thinking about it I can't help myself.
I don't know near as much as you guys do, so any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm planning on buying this car on credit with a max price of $20,000. However there a few different types of cars I've been looking at, which would you choose.
VZ Executive (possibly with clubby kit or something)
VZ SV6
VZ Calais (V6)
VX Clubsport
VE Omega
What would the fuel economy difference be between the V6's and V8 mentioned?
Thanks
Id be looking at either the VX Clubby or the VZ Calais.
If youre spending 20 grand dont put yourself into an exec. The Calais has the comfort and the features that will be worth your money.
...and as for the Clubby, well its a V8. However the problem I found with Clubsports when I was looking at them is they were pretty expensive when you factor in what features they have over the exec. So you really have to look harder for a good deal to pop up.
Fuel economy isnt bad, but its a V8 so if you give it the boot every now and then it drinks like a lizard in a pond. Im getting maybe 350 k's to a tank in city driving and I am dont have a feather's touch on the throttle. On Highways mine runs on the sniff of petrol.
I'd go the clubby, I would not be too worried about fuel economy as there is **** all difference. I would be more worried about cost of ongoing maintenance, rego, insurance etc etc.

Do your insurance quotes, you may get a shock with the clubby, also check out auctions, a lot of people dont like them but while VZ acclaims were (10 months ago) and are still getting $13000+, I got one for $9300+reg with 92000km. I'm not too concerned with the k's as the car is immaculate inside and out and drives perfect. Good range of cars too as they have repo's, government and fleet cars. You may need to go back a few weeks in a row to get one at the right price.
