thought i'd start a thread about tyre life.
just wondering whats the most amount of k's you've got out of a set of rubber on your commodore and what tyres they were.
i havent had my commodore for very long, so im not sure what life i'll get. put new rubber on about 3,000ks ago, coz the insides of the fronts were like slicks.
my old man on his vz ss crewman is still on the original tyres after 104,000k's. yes haha they are absolutely screwed.
I dont have them now but ive had a set laying around for about 40 years.
Good old vintage whitewalls![]()
But if you mean recent tyres then I have to be honest and say I have never kept a set long enough to get down to the wear lines lol
Whenever I feel they need to be changed I just swap the whole wheel with brand newies.
yeah i meant how many k's you've got out of a set.
god, i wish i could get new tyres when i want...university sucks haha.
I pay like 300 for a brand new set of rims with tyres when I trade the ones I have.
Cheaper than buying two new tyres.
this would be more interesting if the title was "Whats the shortest time youve had a set of tyres for?"
65,000 ks on my old decked corolla driving to syd. Yes a corolla, thats why i had em so long.
I seen a very rare VH in Ballarat the other day with 2000kms on the clock, this thing was absolutly mint and stock. The bloke driving it would have been about 80 years old. I swear the tyres were the originals. had classic 78 or something written on the walls.
I got my current tyres in February last year and there is still about 30% on the back about 40,000k's later

Our HWP cops used to flog out a full set of tyres inside 12,000km and the Sergeant thought that was quite reasonable.
I didn't agree. It was costing over $1200 a set and we had six cars on our HWP fleet. We often argued about the sort of things his blokes did to the tyres.
The VT tyres are at 68,000 km's still heaps of tread left, going to rotate them and see if I can get another 70,000km's out of them, pffft who says P-platers are hoons lol.
The ute tyre wont last long, they are just shit, provide no traction, once the rears get down a bit more, all 4 will be being replaced. Sick of random sliding, and no grip on gravel roads.
about 80 000 k's on a pair of RE92's on the rear of my acclaim. Fronts never last as long tho.
OEM equipment 150,000K's (bridgestone turanza)

I changed the tyres on the VX SS at around 45,000km (The original Bridgestone B530's)
I had never rotated or balanced them from new, the 2 back ones were starting to show some inner wear at around the 45,000km but the fronts still had quite a bit left on them,
reckon they would have run to around 60,000km or so, but I had been reading a few articles on how tyres 'AGE' and how most manufacturers suggest I think it was around 6 years was the recommended life of a tyre before they started to develop issues with cracking and internal rusting of the steel bands and quite a few other things I can't recall at the moment.
As mine were 8 years old I decided to pop 4 new ones on. Bit in the link below on 'Aged Tyres'

i've had a set of bridgestone potenzas on my car since early febuary last year so i'm guessin about 60k on them already and probably another 10 to 20 left in them
2000K LOL my tires dont get much life they like to magically spin everynow and then dam LSD
MY VY SV8 HBD http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...y-sv8-hbd.html
10,000k's and theyre shagged and need to be replaced
That's what I've been doing as well
Last set of stockies I had were fitted with 'Skypower' (NZ made Bridgestones) tyres and when I pulled them off to fit my $50 Antera mags the rears were still pratically like new in terms of tread despite doing around 35,000 plus k's since i've had the car (maybe even more)
One even had a couple of screws in the tyre, probably explains the slow leak it developed....![]()
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
I use Bridgestone exclusively and generally get around 45000 k's to a set. I got that many out of the Potenza GIII's I previously had and I'm expecting more or less the same out of the current Potenza RE001 Adrenalins. Awesome tyre too by the way!
Well it is a trade off. The harder the compund the longer they last. The harder the compund the worse they grip as well.
Never really had dramas with grip in wet or dry with them, even in torrential rain the car stuck pretty well, then again I'm not driving on the road like I'm racing a V8 Supercar....![]()
