    Default GPS/SMS car alarms

The idea that you can shut off your car via SMS and then find it by GPS coordinates sounds awesome. However i'm sure seasoned car thieves have ways around this. These systems are about 2 to 3 times the price of your run-of-the-mill door alarm. Are they worth the extra money or is it all just a novelty?
