hey guys, well i was travelling home on a country road last night and was about to go round a bend when this hilux (or some sort of 4wd) came round halfway onto my side of the road and i had to vere left a bit to avoid contact. unfortunately my rear left wheel clipped the edge of the tarmac where it was eroded away and BANG!... i went to straighten up then the car decided to sway the rear end out almost sending me into the bush. i pulled up as soon as i could only to find out that the complete inside of the rim was demolished
called bob jane today and they want me to take it down tomorrow to them so they can see it.
my question is am i able to go back to bob jane with the rim and maybe try to claim this on warrenty? rims are about 3 months old

yeah, i just thought it might have been worth a try. it just seems a bit severe for only 80km/h.
yeah true, spending $500 on a new rim and tyre is something i cant really do atm so i think i will just suck it up and chuck on a set of chasers for time being. might even just save up for a new rim/tyre and then get a complete new set of rims that arent PDW branded as seeing the broken alloy, it looks pretty cheap.
thanks anyway, you saved me $30 in fuel money lol.
$500/1 rim?
what rim is it mate
i dont know about you but i sure as *** wouldnt want to be driving around on those weak rims.
I would be taking it back and arguing the point that it was obviosuly a defect in the rim itself that caused it to break up. That IS covered under warranty as it is classified as a manafacturers defect. Just say your a long time customer of theirs and they should have no problem. The shop doesn't pay for warranty pay outs, it's the manfacturer who does when the claim form gets processed.
But i would definatly suggest trying under warranty because of the manfacturers error in production. Just keep pushing that point.
ive seen alloy rims hit curbs at 100kmh and have wway less damage than that must be shit rims
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
thats $500 for the new rim and a new tyre...$251 each the rims cost me and like the same for the tyres each. have a look at thread in the vt section of "my ride" if u want to see what they look like.
i wouldnt say they are weak i did hit the road edge rather hard for 80km/h and the drop down was prolly a good 10cm or so before it made contact wit the road surface again.
i do have ultralows all round. the edge must have only hit on the inside half of the tyre for it to have done that damage otherwise it really should have only buckled.
i'm just spewin cos this was the last thing i needed to happen.
"EDIT"
i'm gonna have a shot at it anyway for the sake of it, i spent $2000 of my hard earned money on them so i want my money's worth.
will update you's tomoz.

that sort of impact wont do that damage. definately faulty manufacture
those rims are a joke. Reminds me of the fake vy senator rims.
To me it looks like it broke on a really dodgy weld line..? Definitely try for warranty - there is no way it should be that damaged.
ok guys i took the rim back to Bob Janes today and talked to the guy that sold me the rims in the first place and he is gonna try and squeeze a new rim out of PDW for me under warrenty. if i dont get one then i will just have to pay for it and i will be selling them asap for some better quality ones, cant have this happening again.
my old man was kind enough to shout me a brand new set of tyres to throw on some chasers while i save up for new rims.
80kmh into the edge of the road? they aren't going to warranty that mate. no matter how hard you try
Well... depends on how steep this tarmac errosion was. Like theres a few potholes around and dodgy roadworks sections which I rekon would be quite similar to what you describe and I wouldnt think rims would split in half like they have for such a hit. The way the rim has cracked suggests that there mightve been something structually wrong with the rim in the first place.
Hitting a pothole or something similar you would expect a dint or something in the edge of the rim, not a perfect split down the middle of it.
Stick with the quality brands and you won't be wasting your money. You will pay more but it is worth it.
There are a lot of mid and low quality Chinese made alloys on the market and B Jane stocks many of these. They look OK until you have an incident like you did and they don't stand up to the stresses.
You were lucky this time.
You probably will get warranty for the fact that they don't want the hassle, they buy the rims for around $80 each, if worse come to worse, you could go for compensation from the local council but it would be a loooong process.
the fellas at bob jane got a hold of PDW and they asked for the rim to be sent to them in melbourne so they can see it. i will find out by the end of the week if i get a replacement or not.
still deciding if i want to sell them or not , but if i do how much should i try and get? i have a mate interested in them.
they are not cheapo rims either.
What were they worth new?
