    Default New 20's Buckled!

So last monday I got a hot set of 20's put on my VY. At anything over 80 they vibrated like a mother****er. Knowing this wasn't right I took them back (to Bob Jane) as soon as I could (today).

I assumed it was an issue with the balancing of the wheels, but the guy put them on the machine and it showed that they were balanced correctly. The issue lied with the fact that the wheel seemed to be slightly buckled.

The manager came out and they measured how 'out' the wheel was, and it was around 2mill. He insisted that only at around 5mill is it an issue, and the vibration was an issue with the tyre, not the wheel. So now he's waiting on a new tyre to fit later this week.

My question is - is this guy full of shit? I'm of the opinion that the wheel shouldn't be out by any measure. And I feel that it's prob not the best for my car to have a wheel that's 'out' like that.

What's the general consensus? Should I push for a new wheel? Is it screwing with my car?

    Thanks for the help!

Your first mistake was buying from bob jane.

If there new, they shouldn't be buckled, you either didn't get new wheels, or they were faulty from the manufacturer. Push for a new wheel, if you payed for new, why expect anything less.

Yeah id be pushing for a new wheel. If you can feel the vibration, its defiantly not right. Down the track (ie out of warranty period) you might notice excess wear on tyres, the need for more alignments etc and itll be your problem.

I didn't plan on buying from them... I went in for a puncture, left with $2500 wheels. **** my credit card.

And yeah, I'm prob going to push for a new wheel. They aren't cheap so screw settling for second best.

i doubt it would get to that. pretty sure they're just trying to make the most of the fact I know stuff all about wheels/tyres.

I think the tyres are achilles. i might just take the op and get my money back. throw on some steel wheels, decent tyres. save the cash and get a calais in 6 months time. prob the safest option

If they'll give you all your money back, do that. And learn from your mistake.

Personally i wouldn't even let them fix a puncture on my cars (although thats just because of my personal opinion of Bob)

I've decided my self never to go to tyre and rim franchises. I either go to my local tyre place or my mechanic (he can do anything )

Every Franchise is different. The Bob Jane where I live is very good. Been recommended by every mechanic in my area that I've been too. Good service, great customer care (they always give me discounts on repairs or parts whenever I go, even if its not for my car), owner is a top bloke, etc.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think I have ever heard a positive review about Bob Jane. Avoid them like the plague.

Unfortunately with franchise stores, theres only a few exceptions. most are rip off merchants, and i'll continue to recommend people away from them.

lol, what ****ing brand tyre is that? Why buy new wheels then use shit cheap chinese rubber? Seems rather stupid people are willing to risk their lives for cheap rubber. Would you use a condom you could buy for 2cents in a clear packet? Or would you feel safer using say Ansell who have a great track record of reliability?

As for wheels being out 2mm, I would say most wheels you buy tehse days are generally not perfect. 2mm out of round wont cause any vibrations etc.

What about that pic going around, 'Please practise safe sex' and the condom is stapled to the card (through the condom)

Its scary to see just how many cheap ass brand of tyres are out there,The Statesman had some crap brand 20in tyres on the back and ended up with the steel belts coming out through the inside side wall.

I see this far too often. It's disappointing that people care about looks over safety.
