Stock VY Commodore agasint a Turbo Skyline and WRX?

Hey Guys,

Ok so here is the deal, this guy thinks his Stock VY has beaten a Turbo charged Skyline and WRX. Is that true? Is it really possible for a Stock VY to beat a Skyline and or a WRX that has been Turboed? I mean as in a full on drag.

Plausible if it was a V8. Only way a stock 6 would beat either is if the other cars were parked.

Its perfectly possible. Thats not to say the Skyline and WRX aren't faster (because they are), too many variables to say they'll win all the time

Seen many a import lose to V6 commodores at the drags just cause the driver is shit. A win is a win

I have heard the same story from a VY driver. I didnt belive it untill i saw the race in action. stock r32/33/34's (gts-t not gtr's haha) are not as fast as you think they are. Add into that most skylines are manual so auto vs manual etc. if the drive cant shift for shit or is shifting out of the powerband then of course the other car is going to win. This can go both ways.

The race i saw was a stock VY, stock everything and a R33 gts-t with a GTR kit and turbo timer.

ive done over stock wrx's over 400M in auto vp 3.8 i could get the jump off the line so much easier than the guy with the manual wrx he was just about to catch me at the end of 400m but could never quite get me was allways a foot or 2 behind at the end then he got an STI which run more boost and bigger turbo than the stock wrx and then he was 2m in front so yeah plausible

The thing about skylines is that there's alot of NA ones kicking around and everyone assumes all of them are turbos, the NA Sylines are alot slower than the average V6 Commodore. The turbo ones are a bit faster but a decent stockish (exhaust/tune) 5 litre VN can take a stock turbo skyline without too much problem (a v6 wont be up for it at least not for more than 80 feet).

Never seen a WRX at the track, those kind of things break too easy for drag racing, seen a Lancer do ONE pass once it was fast but it busted the driveline on the second launch of the night. IMHO no chance for a V6 to beat one of these when launched and driven properly, not even close. But you have to remember if the V6 guy is so keep that he goes GOOOO and a second passes before the other guys knows it's a race, you would need 600 meters to make up for the jump and that's how twits win races . When you are at the track with lights and timing beams you wont ever see a V6 beat anything other than a Hyundai or worn out Falcon and even then it's pretty close

If the Commodore has FE1 and good tyres, and the WRX/Skyline has boat anchor 20" dinner plates, shitty tyres and a pathetic driver then the Commodore may win.

If it's stock for stock, then the Commodore will get whooped.

greenfoam also makes a good point that a lot of NA cars are dressed up to look like the turbo variants.

not to sure about wrx (sti) or skyline turbo but i used to own a twin turbo legacy ...i no they are the gayest car round but it was not much diffrent speed wise to my brothers wrx in a drag any way i raced a vs v6 eco tec and no shit it had me easy i didnt miss any gears or any thing like that i got fair and square DICKED but also later raced a vp ss and held it off no problem so it realy must depend on how good the driver is of each car.

Errm, maybe? compare 03 WRX(03 WRX 5.8 14 vs 03 VY SS(VY SS S1 5.8 14.24), so what your saying is the stock 6 is faster than the wrx and the SS lol?

I've seen a hyundai excel beat an 11 second VT SS, does not mean they were racing...
