I've checked RTA for NSW if anyone is interested and this is from their PDF:
"The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle."
SA peopel dont care about NSWlol
Is this confirmed? Has anyone actually rung Regency to confirm this?
so bascially now if your car (say a VN) is fitted with 19's that would be aproved by an engineer, is now legal with the papper work? because the 15x65 has the same over-all diametre as a 19x35 wheel? correct?
i think so
Think i might get some bigger rims now=D
I have just recently tried for a rwc and got Knocked back for having 19 inch rims on a vp calais. So does this now allow me to go back and aruge the point? Or do you still need an engineers cert to have 19?
I AM IN VIC TOO BY THE WAY
as far as I understand as long as you dont increase the over all diametre of the tyres it's legal or will past a engineers report. ring the coppers and put it to them for the best advice, or just past it on stockies and then put the 19's on knowing that you shouldn't get defected.
So if VNs came out with a 205/65 R15 tyre with a load index of 95(690kg) overall diameter is 647mm.
You would need a 235/35 R19 tyre that has a diameter of 647. perfect! providing it has a load rating of 95 or above.
For 18s it would be a 235/40 R18 tyre that has a 645mm diameter.
sooo no chance of gettin away with 20" on a vn then lol
COMMOLER, where are you pulling the overall diameter.
I thought the 235 is in mm and the 65 is a percentage of the 235. you add them to gether with the rim size.
235/35/19 :82.25 + 482.6 = 586.85
205/65/15 :133.25 + 381 = 516.25
I hope I am completely worng to be honest. Cause if they are the same diameter i can keep my wheelsLOL
please ignor the reponse commoler. It turns out I was wrong LOL I should never have doubt you.
I have started another thread with a site attached to give you a quick look at tyre diameters.
For those of you in VIC, I just got off the phone to VICROADS about the legal wheel and tyre diameter.
I was told that they do not look at the wheel size but they do look at the wheel and tyre diameter together.
You are by law able to go over standard wheel and tyre size by 15mm and over 25mm for standard width.
Cheers
Congratulations guys:!) and well done to VN2NV who started this war with SA transport and got the ball rolling a couple of years ago to try and bring the state into line with the national guidlines :!). I guess this means you are now under the ncap guidlines? which allows for some pretty mean rims and tyres (and very well thought out and safe they are too)
so how big could i go on my calais now that the 2 inch rule has been deleted?
