Hey guys just brought a new ute and am wondering how to fix down some marine carpet/tooxboxes etc to the floor so it doesnt slide around. I was told today by a guy at work that its fine to just screw straight into the body of the car with a self tapper. I cant really see a problem with it either but is there any other ways people go about these things. (is water got in would it rust out the holes i've screwed?)
Just to further explain i got some marine carpet because things were sliding around too much on the tub liner, but when the is anything on it it still slides around and takes the carpet with it. I also brought a toolbox today so i would need to fix that to the floor as well.
Any advice is appreciated guys thanks heaps.
I must say I missed the "to" in the title and thought this thread was about a different "sliding around in the tub".
Anyways, I wouldnt worry to much about it rusting, mine havent showed any signs of rusting around the screms I've put in. If you are really keen, make the whole with the self tapper, remove, paint with a anti-rust primer and refit, obviously the immediate hole will be stripped once you screw back into it, but will protect alittle bit more. I would be more worried about the rubber causing it to rust which is more common (mainly on the those cheap full tub liners.)
I pop riveted my old tool box in and bolted my new one in, but it depends how much you like your Ute personally i hate mine and hope it bursts into flames so i didnt worry to much about the drilling of holes into it.
as for shit sliding around i think you can get thick rubber tray lining from Clark rubber or similar.
oh and if you bolt it in or pop rivert it in make sure you dont drill a hole in the fuel tank LOL i did that to.
