Dust Storm Maintenance- essential

If you were one of the unfortunate people who had to run their vehicle during the dust storm in Sydney on Wed, don't forget to change your engine air filter element as soon as possible.

The dust was very extreme and the particles were talcum powder size and abrasive. Running your car in this environment will clog the air filter element quickly - even if new- and your engine will not run efficiently. At worst, some dirt particles will enter your engine.

Remove the old air filter element and clean out the filter box by vacuum and a damp cloth. When all clean and dry install the new filter. This is very easy to do and is cheap essential maintenance for your car. New filters are only around 20 dollars and you have probably not changed yours for a while in any event.

Already done , but I have to check the diodes inside the maf yet the dust found its way all over the engine bay I could write my name on the supercharger

got it in Mildura as well, but it was mostly accompanied by rain and the car wasn't running so at least i only have to wash the crap out of every nook and cranny other than the engine.

cleaned mine today, and the entire engine bay cause there was dust everywhere

talc is usually 100+ UM (Microns) so I wouldn't expect much to get into the engine.

Pity if you only just cleaned/replaced your filters though. What are you guys planing to do to get it out of the nooks and crannys all throughout the car? airgun?

How would dust worry a diode? unless your talking about something different im thinking of.

If it coats the diodes and tiny wires on the ends it could give the computer false readings

Yeah, they're VERY sensitive. My old Mazda used to turn off instantly if you touched the diode while it was running

Probaly worse if you run an oil type filter

Mate if you were running a K&N in that storm the dust will allready have honed the bores in the engine nicely
