Hey guys, I'm currently working on turning my little baby VE Calais into a full blown VE Senator replica, so far progress is good. HOWEVER, I'm looking for more ideas!!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Current mods:
- VE Senator Front (debadged - replaced with Calais badge) incl. Projector Foglights
- VE GTS Rear Bar/Lights/Exhaust/Infill Caps
- VE SS Side Skirts
- Debadged boot, replaced with repositioned "Calais" badge, a F250 "Custom" badge, and a power output (195) badge to replicate the HSV power output badging.
- Custom Plates (SLY6)
- Crystal Vision Low Beam Globes (Soon to be HID Low/High/Fog/SMD Parkers)
- Aftermarket Blaupunkt Stereo (2x12" 600W RMS Woofers, 1x2CH 1200W Amp, 1x4CH 800W Amp, 4x6" Door Speakers [unsure of wattage] and 2 x Tweeters)
- Red LED Footwell/Boot Strips (bigger, better, and brighter)
- 19" SSV Rims
Future Mods
- Black Vinyl Roof
- Darkest Legal Tint
- Painted dash strips (silver)
- Lower dash dyed cream, along with parts of console and door trims/seat inserts.
- New boot install (need to clean it up, goes well but doesnt look the part)
- SMD Reverse lights
- SMD Indicator globes
- Painted engine cover (black and silver) with same stencil applied.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The car is white and still in the shop, this is how she looks at this point in time:

What I'm looking for now is ideas of what to do next, so I'll let you guys help me and figure out some things
Tell me what I should do!! The sky's the limits, even the craziest ideas will be considered.

How about get rid of that entire list, and find a wrecked VE 6 litre, and drop the running gear into your car.

This might sound a little crazy, but here goes:
If that doesn't tickle your fancy, keep the car a Calais. Its nice enough as it is and you should respect it. If you want to stuff around with a car as much as you plan to, you should have bought a base model Commodore.
- Throw out the list
- return the car to its stock form and sell it
- buy a Senator, and let the customisation start from here...
I just don't understand why people spend so much money on something so nice, then with some wild vision, think they can turn it into a masterpeice. Reality is, you are still driving a Calais, not a Senator. Go buy one of those shit dealer mock-up v6 Clubby's![]()
I'm 19 and on my 2nd year of p plates, I have 3 years of P's left.. So, I doubt that's going to happen for a long time !
5 years on your P's? That must suck balls..
Hmm, why not just turn it into a nice Calais cruiser, restrictions won't allow you to drop a v8 in (correct me if I'm wrong) so you will never really get to drive around in a proper Senator replica.
but it looks hot

hard earned cash? he's 19 and he has a ve calais that he has already modded and planning on modding more...id bet hes not the one paying for any of it. having sed that he is just ahead of everyone else, in the mid 90's modding a vs would be on the same level as modding a ve now, so i dont think there is anything wrong wit wat he is doing. Go for it dude reckon it will look wicked.

Calais is a nice car in it's own right, if I were in your shoes I'd concentrate on building a nice Calais, rather than a crappy knock-off Senator.

Thanks for your opinions but half of them aren't valid and are more than likely out of spite.
I'll ask elsewhere.
Great, another kid who can't understand constructive criticism, or the context of others' opinions.
When you're done having your sook maybe you can learn a thing or two from this place.

If the bloke wanted constructive criticism then he would have posted a thread entitled as such! as he has asked, he wants some Positive opinions on his car & future mods and not lectures on how he should live his life, Geeez
No doubt it will be a fine piece of machinery when shes built mate![]()

To be fair, the post/title said "tell me what I should do", and that's what most people have done. Some are more tactful than others, but that's just the way of things.
Anyone who posts on a forum saying something to the effect of "tell me what you think, but only if you agree with me" is just lining themselves up for an argument, and just sheltering themselves from reality.
Best I can tell, most people do visual mods to their cars mainly because they want other people to be impressed by them, taking on board the consensus of people here can give you some idea of what people will be thinking when they see your car on the street, surely that is valuable input even if it's expressed somewhat brusquely.
To elaborate on my first post, make it into a kickarse Calais, pimp out the interior with all the high-end gadgets, leather/sheepskin seats, DVD players, sound system etc - make it luxurious, because that's what a Calais is supposed to be. I like what you'd done with the front of the car, whatever you do don't stick HSV/Senator/V8/Chev badges on, people in the know will just think you're a fool if you do. Keep it classy.

Just to clarify to anyone who thinks I'm going to rice it up with HSV badges and/or Chev badges, they will never ever touch my car. I'm aiming to change the appearance of it while keeping it looking factory and badged as what it is, I'm not a dreamer who is trying to fulfill any wishes of owning an HSV![]()
