Last night i went for a cruise to the city,Whilst heading home down lygon st close to the corner of brunswick rd i noticed a white vn on the side of lygon st just past the old railway hump.I pulled over as the driver looked stressed and the car was a mess.I walked to the left of his car and though FFAAARRKK what happened bud? Story goes he had king spring lows in the rear and cut 2 and a half coils off and put on some ceptors on the rear (15") to dump his beast } but as he flew over the bump the left coil fell out to the left and cut the tyre, brake hose and he landed real hard which bent the strut and pushed the diff to the right about 10 cms. I thinks you idiot.Hes like yeah its my stupid mistake should of thrown some cable ties on springs, bhaaahahahaha lol
Basically i think this issue on cut springs has been covered many times? but i never took it quite serious myself untill i actually saw the danger it poses and the damage it can cause.
I just hope my message will reach some young drivers as this guy only had is licence for 3 months.Im not having a go at the youngies but just want to alert others aswell who choose to hit an agle grinder to their coils,DONT DO IT its friggin scary and deadly\
Also very costly as i think its going to set this dude back atleast a grand to fix his undercarriage.
I left the twat in the mess as he was to busy calling his mate and bragging about gettin airborne and how sick it was???
CONCLUSION?? Your life and others life is worth more than a few hundred bux.Buy propper and trapped lowered springs.
i wouldve called the cops on the moron too, and tell them to check the springs immediately

Sadly this site has these sorts of idiots that think these sort of mods are fine. We can only hope their idiocy does not kill someone.

dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
As far as i can tell, most people here know what a dangerous mod is, and rip into people if they say they are doing something stupid. I doubt any member here would sit by and not post ina thread for a guy who wants 1000hp with drum brakes all round..... (exaggerated hypothetical)

Chopped springs is a very obvious one though. if they do it then i offer them a place in hell to burn for eternity and hope they do so solo.
Generally though, yes, we do shun idiocy here, or ignore it, certainly don't encourage it (most)
.... so if he had of bought "super duper hektik extra low" springs for 300 bux that are the same free length as the ones he cut - it wouldn't have happened?
cut springs are likely to make your car handle and feel like crap - but they don't just jump out because they are cut.
They jump out because someone hasn't bothered to run a shortened shock absorber to suit the reduced travel requirement of any spring that's free-height is shorter than a standard spring.
Conclusion: This sort of thing can happen to anyone that's running lowered springs WITHOUT having changed the shocks. - whether they forked out a few hundred bucks of hard earnt plastic printed, clear windowed goodness - or got crafty with an angle grinder.
Even king spring 'lows' will jump out - on a bad day with standard shocks and some serious train crossing action
I dunno how springs would jump out from the front of a commodore? unless they become massively dislodged and break the strut rod or something?
That's why insurance premiums are ridiculous. Wanker.
Suck shit. Glad no one was hurt.

A cut spring will have a higher chance of jumping out than a lowered spring because of the length of the spring. The low spring is sometimes shorter than a standard spring, but it is more to do with spring rates. The low spring will have the same number of coils as a standard spring but they are compressed, or in a variable rate spring, part of the spring is compressed and part is not.
When you cut a spring, you are shortening it beyond the length of a low spring by removing coils, so the overall length is a lot shorter than a low spring. Fitting shortened shocks will not trap a cut spring as the extended length of the shock is designed to go with a low spring, not a cut one, the cut one is shorter than the shock.
im young dont know much bout springs but know not to cut them get it done properly your car will be happy and safe and cops will be fine and very low chance of a accident
