Hey, i am looking at buying a VR SS from pickles, so i cant tell how the car has been treated and i'm wondering how many k's is too many on a holden 5litre? It has almost 300 000k's. would it still go okayish?
Cheers!
it'd be safe to assume that it may need a rebuild at some stage.
the way i'd look at it would be to add the purchase price, to the price of a rebuild, if that's cheaper or around about the same price as buying a VR SS with -150k on the clock, go for it.
its not the motor i would be worried about mate, things like shocks, bushes, ball joints, brake rotors, bearings, etc tc etc all add up to one big ouchie $$$
high kms means more than just an engine overhaul
This motor had nearly 300,000 km on it when it was removed. One of the fastest bolt on 5 litres going around and was still very strong when I sold it. Reapers Black VP SS. That said, no oil changes etc etc and you might struggle to get half that many km out of it.
Reaper
my vr has 230000+ on it and i just finished replacing all my power steering stuff and suspension and bushes and so forth .......... but then engine which had been abused by the previous owner is still going strong
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
my calais has 288xxx on it, still revs harder and sounds fresher than any other unopened 5L i know of. im beginning to wonder whether mines been rebuilt at some stage or whether its just been well maintained all its life..
Cheers for the help here guys, ended up going for Ford Laser instead .. haha i know but still its just a project car to make some cash not something to drive.
What year Ford Laser? Many of them are Mazda 323s anyway, which are like the most reliable car in the world from that eraVery easy to sell.
