    Default vt spoiler templates???

is there any such thing as a template to help drill the holes in boots of a vt?
I bought a car and it came with a spoiler that the previous owner never fitted. Its just the standard spoiler nother too loony and im sort of thinking i wouldn''t mind fitting it.... just wondering if there is an easy way to mark out holes prior to drilling... >

The spoiler should have rubber gaskets under each mounting point. If they are there, you can use them as templates for the hole spacing.

If there are no gaskets, you can make some from an old inner tube. Cut the gaskets out roughly, then carefully trim them down until they are a neat fit under each mounting. Cut the holes out to match each side (one has two holes, the other has a third for the wiring).

    Then follow this sequence.

    1. Inside your boot lid, you will find two points on each side of the lid, which gives you an indication of where the mounting bolts go.

    2. On the outside of those points, place masking tape over the entire area where the spoiler mounting sit then mark the tape with the centre points of the two mounting points you found under the lid.

    3. Place the spoiler onto the boot with the aid of a friend to steady it, and move it around carefully until it's exactly centred on the boot and the holes align with the marks on the tape.

    4. Draw around the outside edge of both mounting points.

    5. Remove the spoiler and place the two gaskets on the lid, aligning the outer edges of each of them with the marks you drew on the tape.

    6. Tape the gaskets down and carefully drill the holes in the lid. Before doing this, prop the boot lid semi-open with a block of wood placed between the lid and the guard. This prevents the drill going too are and striking the guard when it goes through the lid. Also, be careful to use a pilot drill first, especially when drilling the hole for the wiring. This hole has to end up INSIDE the inner boot skin. When drilling the hole out to the actual size needed, drill at an angle, pointing the drill towards the centre of the car, not at 90 degrees to the lid

    7. Clean the edges of the holes. Remove the tape, install the spoiler and connect the wiring. Good luck.

    Hi Artrix

I have a VY, but I assume the design of the VT boot lid would be similar despite the design difference.

The spoiler actually mounts through the side flanges of the bootlid, just inside where the outer skin folds over the inner skin. If you open up the bootlid, you will see a rubber bumper on each top corner, at the point where the bootlid starts to slope down from the horizontal. Just beside that bumper, you will see that the flange widens at two points, one in front and the other behind that rubber bumper. The spoiler mounting bolts will come through about the middle of each wide spot.

I'd take a pic of mine but as it's dark, I doubt that the photo would explain things much better. Just open your boot and take a look - if the VT is similar, it should be reasonably obvious.
