Hi had such a great response to a couple of other questions I thought I would throw this one out there as well. I got a mate that wants to paint his turkish brothel red dash on his nissan and he wants to get a good finish ..... does anyone have any experience with painting dash plastic? I know there are cans at supercheap etc but the colour range is limited and I figured a spray job done with a touch up spray gun would be better. Anyone out ther have any input that might help ..... cheers
For really good results you should use some Vinyl Die spray paint. But as you have stated, getting the exact colour can be hard, although there's probably a colour available that comes close.
can you get it for a spray gun I have only seen ans
You really don't need to use vinyl dye on hard plastics. They will take a good quality acrylic spray, from a pressure pack can, perfectly well. The plastic just needs to be well cleaned and lightly rubbed back with wet and dry used wet, 800 or 1000 grade to minimise scratching. Even finer if you choose.
Then light coats until the desired colour build up is achieved. Leave to dry for a couple of hours before re-installing the bits.
If a high gloss finish is desired, Brasso is brilliant. It's a very fine abrasive that will remove the bare minimum of top coat but leaves a superb shine.
i THINK u can get a vinyl paint mixed up a specialty paint stores... can or spray gun preperation is the key good primer and clean and sand
shhh now PUPPET
I had to get the dark claret colour vinyl paint mixed up for me when I added some bits to my VH SS.
Couldn't buy it anywhere in cans. Closest I could find was burgandy, but it was far too red.
It's holding up well. It does scuff a bit on the hard plastics though (eg VS speaker pods) which I just brush touch every so often. But for the vinyl it was perfect.
thamks for the input will attempt to do a good job and post any report that i think would be of interest.
Have a look in the 'How to' section, there is a detailed writeup with pics in there![]()
