Hey all,
Well currently I've been tossing up between a VS or VU or VY for a ute, sometimes see a nice VR or something like that to have a look but nothing worth picking at.
My main question is which do you think is good for everyday use, and probably motorbike transport every weekend almost.
My Conclusion -
VR/VS - Cheap, liable but high k's most of the time and very hard to get very good condition one. This is easily in my price range. Another thing i don't like about them is the look, with the S-Pack or Maloo kit with senator front or something it doesn't look too bad, but stock it's horrible. Any idea on how much for VS Low k's (below 200k) Hopefully Manual, Maloo kit?
VU - Costly, most i see around $12,000ish. They look good, i believe it's the VX it takes over, could be wrong thinking the VT. They look good with or w/o the body kits, low k's and good condition. Rare to find though, which is why they're so bloody costly.
VY - Costly also, but this is the real Ute i want. The only thing is it's about $15000 at the lowest, better eco-tech engine with the 3.8L and most of them are low k's and in the 2000's for the years.
Last but definitely not least, VZ - Around $18k, 3.6L More power, better for the economy, if i could afford a VY i would save up for the VZ no doubt.
All I'm asking is, is it worth getting the $7k-$12k loan for the VU-VZ utes or just stick to the VR/VS's until i can save up for the VY's. Yes it's better to start off with something lower cost just incase I crash it i suppose, but I honestly don't like the look of the VS's, and the Drive/park etc on the steering wheel, just not my type of drive.
Opinions please.
go with the vz, i have a vt and really do wish I could have saved a bit more to buy a Vz SS ls2
plus ive spent about 5 grand on things that have broken in the past 6 months.
VZ hands down..
lol he is a Learner atm btw so no LS2 for himand wont be able to drive a v8 till he is 22

ahh i see you're a ps apprentice, nice. as you are carting around motorbikes most weekends, i'd go a vu or later ute, as the vs utes are fairly tight for the bikes, i dont think you would fit a road bike with the tailgate closed on a vs but dirt ones you can when going corner to corner.
the lack of space in the cabin in the vs and earlier utes is an absolute bitch, so the vu and newer gets my vote there as you can fit most of your gear behind the seats and not have to worry about it getting wet or going walking..
that being said, the vs and older utes are a bit lighter than the vu and later ones, and comparing my vs to my mates vu, both with cat back exhausts and his with a cold air intake and both manuals, mine was quicker by a noticable amount (not sure if the diff ratios are different).
i havent driven a ute with an alloytech yet, i would imagine it would be stronger in the top end than the ecotec utes but with less bottom end and mid range.
Yes but would you rather get a VS right now, or wait about 7 months or so for a VZ.
I'm still on my L's, and no v8/turbo/ls2 shit even a ****ing exhaust cannot be changed until I'm 22. So i'm speaking stock.
Yeahh the VU is mainly what i've looked at, the only thing is it's either get a VS now, or wait around 6-8 months.. And i'm very impatient.
DO NOT get a VZ with a 175 and 4 speed auto. Either get the 6 speed manual or 190 with the 5 speed auto.
wait and get the VZ you won't regret it

apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
get a VY.
i dont like the alloytec engine. worked in a holden service dealership for 2 years. the amount of engines we had to replace in the VZ's because they are all blocked up with sludge and crap was unbelievable. only get a low KM VZ alloytec if it has been serviced VERY regularly, preferably every 10,000 but i doubt anyone would do that when it says every 15k. just a few 1000k's late a couple of times can sludge up the engine and require replacement
i just said if your gonna go for a VY ecosmeg you might as well save the extra for a 190 alloytec ute.
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
Seems like the VZ ute is a favourite.
Pfft why all the hating on the Ecotec. Does the job, parts are cheap and it's reliable.
SV6s are overpriced because every P plater and his dog wants one. And the insurance will be high because of the exact same reason.
VU...all the way, or a VY S.
Classy.
lol i keep telling you not to get ecosmeg because ive seen to many of em burst into flames at random in the last few years, thats all.
Yeah but oh well, shall see I suppose.
