gday gday.
I am having a hard time with insurance.
So im am interested in what u have to say about ur insurance.
1)What company are u with?
2)How much yearly? (comprehensive)
3)What car your have insured?
4)What mods have they covered/know about?
Im after the p platers experiance with the companies, but if you have any tips for me it would be GREATLY appreciated.
I started a new thread because i cbf with info from 2-5 years ago..
THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS!!![]()
BHXD - im pretty sure only just recently, there was a thread about this, but in a nutshell, for P Platers driving even slightly modified vehicles, Just Car's is the best bet.. However make sur you tell them everything you have done to the car to modify it from factory.
yeh it was about insuring a modified car. but i wanted to know about p platers actual experience in doing sothanx tho.
Insure it under a parent if you can, cheap as anything and legal for half the price.
Im pretty sure it would be impossible to make any new thread on this Forum without someone mentioning it has been posted before. There is only a limited amount of things you can talk about when it comes to cars, so unless you want this forum to die out your gonna have to live with the fact that sometimes topics get brought up mulitple times.
I found the cheapest was NRMA for a VYstorm and after a year i have a 25% discount. 220~/month
A really good insurer is Suncorp, if your parents are insured with them too. Up to 60% familiy discount - dont know if this is still available.
I heard Just Car is okay, but you will have to have the excess in your bank at all times, and Just car excess is pretty high.
best to insure under your own name, that way you may get your no claim discount for further down the track.
I insured my car with justcars prior to getting off P plates, their insurance is cheaper for a modded v8 than insuring a std v8 with companies such as HBF.
p.s. don't ADjust your excess, it's not worth it, just pay the std premium.
1)What company are u with? AAMI
2)How much yearly? (comprehensive) I'm only 3rd party Fire and Theft, $400
3)What car your have insured? 1991 Ford Laser TX3
4)What mods have they covered/know about? Rims, Stereo, paint job, tint
Just Cars
Comprehensive $1300/year, $4500 excess (age + std + vehicle)
VT SS
cam, rims, tune, stereo, suspension, exhaust, cai, extractors, engine internals
0 license suspensions, claims etc etc
AAMI
full comp $768, works out to about $4000 excess if i crash it
cv6 monaro (supercharged)
They are not aware of any of the modifications i have. although i was thinking about ringing them, to see what they have to say about me slapping on a turbo haha.
1400 with a 1000 excess on a 07 hilux. they know all my mods (none on the engine) RACV
Jeeeebus Bec, just go with RACV, best ever!
1)What company are u with? RACV
2)How much yearly? (comprehensive) 2400
3)What car your have insured? VE Calais
4)What mods have they covered/know about? EVERYTHING, doesn't raise the premium and I get choice of repairer with a relatively good excess (900) for my age.
Yeah but don't Justcars make you pay the first years full amount upfront if you are a first timer with them?
I am with Elders.

When my first VQ was written off by being cut off by a drunk driver, I got the full Agreed value of the vehicle & got to keep my vehicle to strip a couple parts off.

Shannons wont take anyone under 25 (it was 25 last time I check which was July).
Im with Elders, costs me around 1100 a year fully comp. they know about 90% of my mods just gotta update them on a few new things![]()
Some say less talk more action. But I rekon more torque less traction!
$4K excess!! How much are your cars insured for? Some of you would get bloddy $500 back!
Thanx heaps for all the info guys!
ShiftySLE, my dad organised me insurance with CGU for 603 full comp in his name and me as driver. but he wont tell them that it is lowered and is being stubborn about it. so he cracked the shits because i want to re-lower it after the road worthy and said to do it myself.
when he could just say that it was bought lowered, which is the truth.. grrrr.
wow i dodnt know with justcars u had to have the excess all the time. thats crap!!
and someone just told me to give 1st for women a call. but u guys wouldnt have known about that![]()
hey, if i just go with CGU and then a month or a few weeks down the track say, "its been lowered"
they cant just say "we wont cover u then*keeps bec's money*"
can they?! id happily add a bit more money on to satisfy them!
omg this is annoying as hell. i cant tell them my name, etc. because apparently it will screw up the cgu quote (somehow?!) and no one will give me a quote. and the online quotes arent workinggggg. FML!
ROB!! i got quoted $3000 from RACV!!!!! i have to pay insurance this week so im extremely limited with my options.
well when i say you need excess all the time it's pretty much so that if you crash you can pay the excess straight away. like you would have to have 1k+ saved all the time and it's pretty tempting to spend that 1k.
And as luck has it, it's always the day you spend the 1k that you will need it for excess![]()
that's cheap as insurance
yeah i think you might have to push your dad on that one, cus if you crash and it's your fault. they wont pay you cus you didn't say it was lowered.
be careful.
if you crash the car and they didnt know it was lowered that can void the warranty, therefore you've just paid out the excess and the insurance for absolutely no cover what so ever.
also bec,
do you HAVE to have full comp? i mean can you settle with 3rd party fire and theft.
(if you car is stolen or burnt it's covered. if you have a crash and someone else is at fault you are covered. if you crash into someone and it's your fault, they are covered.)
i had that talk with my parents a while ago, thye were happy just as long as they knew the other person was covered.
also to all the others - there is no point trying to skimp on a few dollars by not telling the insurance company what you have done to the car. they have the right to know as they are the ones paying you out when you have an accident, not to mention if you did have an accident they wouldnt cover you as there was things done to the car not mentioned (unless your plan allows you to have any mod and not tell them)
it's just not worth it.
pay up the dollars or lose out when you crash.
have you thought about 3rd party fire and theft?
you will have less upfront payment, less excess (obviously less cover) but atleast you will cover the other car.
3rd party fire and theft covers, your car stolen or burnt out, if you crash and it's your fault the other car is covered and if someone crashes into you, you are covered.
i had that talk with my parents - i needed insurance but didnt have the 1.5k needed to insure me.
or settle for a little more however go with a plan that allows you to pay monthly.
yeahh true that. he is sooo stubborn tho. i asked him to and he cracked it at me and said "ive gone out of my way to find u insurance and its not good enough?!! do it ur self then and dont come crying to me when it costs u 3grand!!!"
i seriously cried over this on the w/e![]()
il just txt him because he cant yell at me again for askinglol.
i just dont see the big deal of him saying that its lowered! he has a lowered car too, HYPOCRIT!! hmphh. LOL.
