hi all,
intro:
i drive a vy sedan, and have bought VE SSV wheels for it. i had them machined to fit my car and have been on there for about 6 months. i was stupid enough to not get a wheel allignment before putting the wheels on. after a couple of months i completely f**ked my front two tyres, so in the meantime i have put my rear 19s on the from with 15s on the back after getting a wheel alignment. i dont want to be driving around looking like i think im the maddest c*nt out so i want to put the 19s on all round again and buy some new rubber (not mentioning the fact im cop bait atm)
BUT main point of the thread:
when i took my car to get the wheel alignment, the dude said that the tyres i have on the VE SSV's are to suit VE model cars and are not suitable for earlier model commodores. this makes sense as it came of a VE i suppose. The tyres were: 245/45 R19...
my wheels do scrub in the front when i turn very slowly, and the back has been rolled.
does anyone know the correct rubber that should be on my wheels for my car??
does 245/35 R19 sound right? im not exactly sure how the numbers work on the tyres. i have a rough idea. could they even be 235/35 R19??
also, im looking for a cheap pair of tyres. does brand really matter at the end of the day? would i be stupid to buy a tyre of ebay for $150 when at tyre power the right tyres for my wheels might be $350 a pop?
sorry for the essay..
cheers
hey mate, i saw a post on here a while ago that 35 is the correct profile for earlier cars, though i have a mate who runs 245 wide on the front of his vs with no worries, so i'm not sure about tyre width. also, tyres are going to be the thing that is most important when it comes to handling, so if you like a decent car get decent tyres, let alone the fact that they are what is in contact with the road, therefore they are your safety net. if you brake hard on crap tyres, you've got more chance to skid than on decent tyres. this is all just my opinion though mate.
Cheers.
alright, cheers mate. thanks for the advice.
Wanli 235/35/19's cost me about $290 each and have been fantastic on the rear of my SS
Don't skimp on tyres. The only place where cheap chinese rubber belongs is on a wheel barrow. If you can't afford decent 19" tyres go for 4x 15".
