Question How Do I Properly Flush Radiator/Block??

    Hey everyone,
coming into warmer weather now, i see my car getting bit hot in traffic etc, i check the log book and yep its time to change the coolant.. I've searched internet and this forum, however i cant find a proper guide. Can someone please tell me how to flush/clean the radiator/block? Also, what would the best (money aside) coolant be for my ecotec?
    Cheers!

To flush it... I think this is how I did it on my VR, its been a while. Just undo both hoses. Leave the cap on and put the hose into the top radiator hose hole. Keep the hose going untill the water comming out of the bottom of the radiator is clear. I cant remember how I flushed the block...

As for coolant, just got for some Nulon stuff. You can pick up a big bottle of the premix for around 20 bucks from any Supercheap etc.

Seriously, that guide is a good way to either a) burn yourself or b) crack something or c) overheat the engine. Whoever wrote that first post shouldnt be allowed to own a set of screw drivers let alone work on a car.

I would follow this post and this post ONLY

Put the garden hose in the bottom of the radiator and put your hand at the top the block off the other opening.. Then fill the radiator with water and then let it all drain.. Do it a few times..

Turn on heater to high and full blast. Connect all the hoses back up and fill the system with clean water and even a flush treatment if you want.. Run it through the car and drop the lower hose.. The water will be a little green..

Do it again, drop the lower hose and fill up with water, run it through the system and then drop the lower hose..

One step I left out is disconnecting the heater hoses, but I just run the heater on high and let the water flush all the coolant out of it..

Oh and you can disconnect the knock sensor wires to drain the block, if you so wish..

My method would probably take a bit longer then yours.. But I swear by it..
To flush the block properly though, you need to open the thermostat/remove it (chances are if its never been changed you may as well take this opportunity to replace it).
