Hi i am looking at buyin this vx sedan , but the owner said teh only thign that needs to be done is to get the clear coat paint, apparelty its not all pealing off just random parts of the car coz wen she got the car apparetly the ppl that did it the first time didnt let it set long enough or something.
I have rang around a few panel beater place an there all sayin its it onlt parts the whole car still has to be re-sprayed an gonna cost around 6000-7000 grand?
Is there any other cheaper way to do this ??? Like can u do it yaself![]()
Sections of the car should be fine to re-do in clear. On my VS which was moroccan sand (a bad colour for clear coat fade) I had the roof and boot re-done for about $500 cash. Depends if they want to go to the effort of removing the windows or not which increases the labour quite a bit.
It really depends on the condition of the paint on each panel, and whether the colour has faded to the point where matching would be impossible without a total respray. The quote you got would be about right for a complete respray because of the preparation that is necessary as well as the cost of paint and labour.
Just painting the clear won't do the job. If the clear has peeled, the base colour will be stuffed. If the paint has only broken down on the upper surfaces of bonnet, roof and boot, you might get away with only painting those panels, but the upper guards are sure to be stuffed as well, and that's where the colour matching, with the sides of the car, comes in.
Frankly, there are thousands of VX's out there in good nick and they are pretty cheap these days.
I'd be looking at other cars and giving this one a big miss.
