Hey, it would be great if someone could help me out here, i need to change the diff oil/ gearbox oil (getrag) but not sure how. is it just a drain bolt and filler bolt at the side?
What sort of oil should i use?
Cheers!
Can't help you with the gear box if it's manual, but the diff is easy, the bottom bolt at the back of the diff, ie, looking from the arse of the car forward, is the drain bolt. Unscrew and catch old oil in a container.
You will need to know whether the diff is an LSD or not. There should be a tag that will state if it is LSD on the filler bolt which has a larger head and is higher up than the drain bolt. Mine is NOT LSD and I used Castrol SAF-XA but I can't remember how much, might have been two small bottles, costing about $80 all up.
Try to flush a little of the new stuff through before you put the drain bolt back in. Get yourself a silver tube of Permatex ultra blue gasket maker to put on the drain bolt three or four threads from the head and check that the filler bolt gasket is still ok, then fill until it over flows.
Remember there are torque settings for these bolts but I can't remember how much.
There are quite a few threads on this forum that will have the torque settings and LSD oil types.
