Default Re-register - written off- HELP!!!!

    Hey Guys,

I took my car for a Blue slip on Saturday and the inspector said all i needed to do was get a new drivers side CV Boot. So I took the car home and replaced it, all good for him to pass it tomorrow. Earlier today i was reading over the receipt I got from the seller of the car and he has put down that the Car has been put on the Written off Register. It says on the R.T.A website that in order to gain registration again I need to provide receipts from the work that was carried out. Here lay's the problem, as the work that was carried out was done mainly by my dad. Should i just take it back for the Blue slip tomorrow, not say anything and hope for the best at the R.T.A?

    Cheers

yeh man i wouldn't say anything, aslong as it isn't bodgy or unsafe i'd just let it go and see if they found out and if they did, then explain to them, if they find out you will probably need an engineers
    good luck

Im not sure, thats something to ask the RTA, although you may find out earlier.

The blueslip is nothing, its a piece of paper from a mechanic that says "yep she looks safe for the road"

I think you'll have an issue when

    a) he goes to load it online, as its online now, it may reject it.
or b) when you go to the RTA and the VIN comes up as being on the written off register.

I'm assuming he only inspected the car, not actually followed up on lodging the blue slip fail (coz your supposed to lodge them as well so if you go to the next bloke across the road he knows its already been failed for a CV boot at this time on this date )

    Cheers guys,

Yeah not sure if he followed up the lodging. I'm going back first thing in the morning to have him check the CV Boot and then give me the tick of approval. He said that's all he will want to check when I come back. Yes was afraid it might come up on the R.T.A's as being written off. Will give you all an update when i get back tomorrow.

bluies are a bit more involved than a pink matto, to do a blue you have to do a bit more investigation, so all the engine and chassis number have to match the placards, and modifications listed, if its a first register like we do with winnibagos at work they have to be measured to make sure they are in legal specs etc etc

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when a friend of mine had there lexus IS200 re registered they went to the RTA to have it all done and the RTA required receipts for all parts used in the repairs.
Luckily they did have all the receipts but it was the time it took to organize it all which was the real pain.
Labor is not an issue as far as i know but you will need receipts to show everything that has been replaced on the car.
This was only 1 - 2 years ago so I'm guessing they would still be rolling with the same rules.
Good luck with it, hopefully they don't require anything and if they do I hope that you have saved receipts for the parts.

i know from experience that down nsw way they have 2 differerent classes of written off vehicles. one being 'repairable write off' (from hail damage etc) this happened to me a few years ago and all it needed was a bluey to get it back on the road again (no receipts for work done needed) however if yours is 'non repairable write off' or whatever they call it then u might be in for a hard time seeing the road again

repairable writeoffs can be re registered again with a viv certificate and rwc i know my vk is listed as a repairable writeoff and is registered in my name has undergone a viv and was repaired properly. a statutory write off can never see the road again no matter what they can only be used for parts etc what shits me is ebay sellers listing written off cars as clear title and mugs like me come along and buy it to find out later its been very dodgily repaired like the astina i bought with 1/2 an inch thick bog in the engine bay and chassis rail to hide very poor repair all i could do is scrap it as i couldnt rip someone else off..

Well I'm all Smiles guys. It got regoed today after taking almost half a day and doing so much travelling to get it done, but was really worth it. $600 later and I have a car on the road again Turns out the car had, had repairs done to it while written off that I wasn't aware, but still got past.

Look forward to cruising with you all again really soon
