at how many k's did ur box have on it when you got it?
did you get a gearbox recondition?
if so, glad you did?
if not, is it alrite? or did u brake your box?
i think the gearbox blokes trying to rip me off, he seems to think that i definatly absolutly need a recondition including a rebuild of the torque converter. and wants $1750 for it.
now theres nothing wrong with my gearbox, but then again it has 215000k's on it.
(although the first 180 000ks it belonged as a council car and then my mums, so it received nothing close to a flogging.)
vtv6 any advice would be nice thankyou, or if anyone knows a good gearbox shop on the gold coast i could call and ask for information.
i guess thats a proplem to. how can you tell if it shifts fine?
i only drive my car and its the only car ive had.
what should i look for to know if its rooted or not?
without havn to pull it apart
I have a stage 2 shift kit in mine, it had done about 160,000kms.
35,000kms later its still going great, no problems, no regrets, no reconds.
I got one put in yesterday, with 194,000km on it. Bloke told me my box was in great condition for its age, and that the diff bearings will bugger up before the box does, considering how hard it shifts now
That being said, I also have a trans cooler just in case it's aging gracefully and suddenly has a heart attack on meEvery little helps aye.
dont think so, always does what i want it to when i want it to do something.
what breaks them?
i dont do on the brake skids, but in the wet ill go for the odd drift and i take it to limiter in first fairly often. other than that its smooth driving
Youll find most gearboxs in the VP-S start letting go at around 230,000. If the gearbox isnt in decent nick at this stage of its life the shift kit will kill it quicker.
Depending on how long you are keeping the car for it might be good to rebuild it as a precautionary measure for the future.
But yeah look if you service the trans regularly, don't drive it like a moron (judging by the above post - you do), perhaps get a trans cooler and the shifts feel pretty good at the moment, it should be right for a while.
hmm. yeah i think ill just leave it and get the kit installed.
it some goes wrong in the box i can always get the recondition done then hey?
just keep some cash for it.
or spend it on those 1.98 rockers ive always wantedhaha
Yeah theres nothing stopping you getting it done down the track. Just make sure its serviced, perhaps get a trans cooler - they dont cost much at all.
How much dose it cost and where in Adelaide can I do it ???
Hey, im much happier he dug this thread than starting a new shift kit thread.
Just get ur shift kit in if u think the gearbox is fine then go for it, my mate has a vt that has done over 350000kms but the motor had been reconditioned at about 250 i think but not the gearbox and he himself has a stage two and he done it all wen he reco'd his motor and put some goodies in it. So go for it.
is the stage 2 where you need to drill holes in the valve body spacer?
For future refrence for anyone....
My G-box had 150k and i got a stage 2 shift kit put in.
No worries at all!, All work's great, 2 year's later and not a problem at all. < driven normaly.
My g-box was in good cond to start with, So anyone with a below average rough slipping box, i'd suggest not

clutches and steels are what makes your transmission slip. the valve body and servos are what makes it change gear. the amount of slippage would be the same if you had full manual or no shift kit at all.
