Compliance plates

What's the legality of moving them? Nobody with a decent looking engine bay has them visible, but as far as I knew you weren't allowed to remove them at all from the vehicle. Same with mod plates...where do people put them?

I took mine off my wagz....even had the fuzz take them when they searched my house. They said I'd get them back, they just wanted to check them out....guess they thought I was into something dodgy.....they come up clean, they lost them, then when they found them I got them back. When I put them back on I'm gonna put them next to the brake booster behind the strut tower....that's the best spot I've seen them IMO.
