gday people, recently bought a vs ute and it has been lowered with king springs. And i mean really low haha. Im a painter by trade therefore the tray is almost completely filled with a massive toolbox with all my tools in it, extra gear, a ladder etc and paint tins (keeping in mind every tin weighs about 15kg). I would like to raise the ride height, still with lowered springs but perhaps an inch higher. Would that help with scrape issues when dealing with speed bumps etc? Thankyou
Yes, if you raise the suspension it will be less low...is there a serious question?

no, lower it more, it will stop scraping after you bottom out 6-7 times![]()
Post a picture of this car. I want to see how low it is.
My guess is if you raise it, (after sleeping on it and hours of thought lol) it wont scrape as much. I suppose it will depend on how big the speed hump is and how fast you take it. lol.
i take em slow as heck on an angle haha im not exactly a car know it all so i thought id ask here. My question meant more that with such a heavy load in the back can i still have lowered springs. Thanks for the great non sarcastic replies!
I cant help but laugh when i see a dumped ute. It's defeating the only reason for getting a ute - to carry shit!
On a serious note, you could get lows but nothing more. Or maybe air bags.
ok.. so there are lows, super lows and super super lows. (probably more)
depending on what is already on there will tell ya what you can go back to...
if u have super lows in drop back to lows. etc etc....
if it only has lows you'll have to drop back to stock.....
it might be worth finding another ute with lows/super lows and see what they look like just so your sure.
i've got lows on my ute, and since its got standard bumpstops, theres only about 10 ish mm before its on them. when ya put some stuff in the back (i dont cart that much stuff, sometimes it might be 200kg) it doesnt drop very far and since its on the bumpstops it actually rides reasonable.

that wasn't very nice
i'll have you know that the previous owner put the springs in without changing (or dodgying up) the rear bumpstops, and i am sourcing some shortened ones to try and get some useable suspension travel in the rear.
and if i was to take the springs out, it wouldn't have the same effect at all as my problemmed suspension at the moment, as less force would be needed to compress the bumpstops as there would be no other suspension components to take the load (springs).
to the OP, lows would be as low as i would go if i was using my ute for work, i would nearly contemplate going to standard height, maybe even with a stiffer spring rate depending on the weight that you are carrying regularly.
get some "polyair" bags for it.
or sometimes theyre called "load helpers", which is exactly what you need.
its just a small airbag that you put inside your rear coil springs, and stops the springs from sagging so much when you load the ute up.
heaps cheaper than a full springless airbag system.

thanks heaps for the replies people and btw i think it has ultra lows atm
you cant even put a finger through the rear guard it goes over the tyre
yep ill pop em on when i get home on the net from my mobile haha. How do i upload them? I know f.a about computers
Whack some pump up bags in the springs & pump them up when your utes loaded mate!
Something similar to this,
Cheers

Obviusly you are going to be going out and grabbing some new springs, just get a set with a stiff spring rate....the only downside to that is that being a ute as soon as you remove all the weight from over the diff you may find it will become a little more tail happy.
Vy Vq also had stiff SSSL's in to to handle the weight of the DJ equipment. Best thing to do is go visit a suspension shop tell them the look you are wanting and the loads you are carrying and they can provide you the parts you need.
You should see all the show ponies and real utes that turn up at Deniliquin Ute Muster
AFAIK By law you are not allowed to change the bump stop by more than 33%. If your car is 10mm away from the bump stop when stationary, i really doubt that getting 33% shorter bump stops is going to help your problem much.
Get some suitable springs instead of driving a dangerous car aroundWhat's more important; your life and other road users lives, or a couple mm of suspension height?
