Hi guys.
just a quick one. I always assumed that all SS commodores were V8 and all S commodores were V6.
I was looking at a couple of things on the net today and by the looks of what i saw my assumptions were wrong. could someone clear this up for me?
Yep i guy i went to school with has a VT SS Supercharged 6. I think his licence plate is actually VTSSV6.
Okay, no worries. Thanks for that guys.
I reckon this one will create a few arguments.
I don't believe the SS was ever offered with anything other than a V8, and that goes back to the VN. If it has a V6, supercharged or otherwise, I think it's either an S or SV6, depending on which model you are talking about.
Rare as hens teeth but they do exist. Personally seen one about 2 years ago in a local yard for sale

Sorry Calaber, couldn't be more wrong. (And there shouldn't be any arguments about it, its common knowledge to most in the know)
There were VP SS V6s (sold to NZ, but i know of a few that made it back) and ALL VT SSs had the Super6 as an option. (Some more rare info, WH Granges also had the Super6 as an option)

Thanks for the correction. One question though - why would you buy one new? Obviously, not many did.
Back to the dominoes..

I'll admit this one came from left field for me. I have (obviously) never seen or heard of such a model and to be honest, it sounds like one of the dumbest combinations Holden ever offered.
Probably why it never continued

The SS was a "balls out" sports model, marketed that way from day one.
So why make it available with only one ball? If you wanted a Super 6 sports model, buy the S.

VT SS V8 5L 179kw - 1722KG -15L/100km
Thats ~103kw/ton
VT SS Super6 171kw - 1625KG - 13L/100km
Thats ~105kw/ton.
So really, its more powerful per ton, uses a lot less fuel (2L/100km) and actually pulls off the line cleaner. In fact the super6 will beat most stock Gen3s to about 50-60km/h. The supercharger gives them instant power off the line, whereas the Gen3s are a little sluggish.
I would still have taken the V8, i love the sound. But considering the power and fuel gains, the Super6 isnt really a bad choice.
FYI, Holden actually detuned the Super6 so it didnt overpower the V8. With a few small mods, you can easily put it over 200kw (again, we are talking stock vs stock though, i know you can mod the V8s as well)
Cheers
Thats compared to the 5L V8. I'm sure it would be a bigger difference if compared to the LS1
