Hey guys and gals,
I've had a topic like this before but I've sort of made up my mind, but need a little help and a little few side questions.
Firstly, What's the difference between VY/VZ apart from the 3.8L and the 3.6i?
I know there's taillights in the sedans, but I'm speaking utes.
I had a discussion about which ute I should get, VR/VS/VU/VY/VZ and everyone said VZ basically. Not noticing the price or that it's going to be my first "p plate" Car.
Secondly, Which would you prefer, the VY or the VZ? State why. Is it more then the motor? Is it room? Looks? Price?
Honestly, I was thinking of getting a VZ ute (Manual hopefully) due to it only being a bit more then a VY, I'll have $12,000ish in 5 months, and I'll get a 10k loan over 4 years (which is how long P's go for) so just incase I don't want to wait another year to get a v8 etc. The only thing is they cost about $18000 for a good cond one and low ks. Sometimes lucky 16-17k
And a offtopic question but how much room is there behind the seats in a ute? For example whats the biggest size sub you could fit in there (no I wouldn't go higher then 12's, I'm just trying to get the space)
Try answer all the questions if you can please, If you have a VY/VZ Ute V6 please tell me how it goes and stuff.
Thanks![]()

mate stick with getting a VZ bit more power better fuel economy and just much nicer to drive imo.
i can not help with your Qs though sorry
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
Yeah i checked the Specs and VZ's are better, too bad SV6's don't come in VZ Utes, that I've seen anyway.
How exactly are they much nicer to drive?
i prob wouldnt get a 15-18g for ur first car, yeh u can brag about it, but u got dick all experience on the roads and like the other so many new drivers they either crash or get hit by someone else. but i guess each to there own

Yeah I get what you're saying, but I don't like the VS utes, and hard to find one with decent K's, and I'm not the ******** kind of person, and if i was I'd do it by myself out in the middle of nowhere, I know alot of people say that but I mean it.
But to elaborate on the VS utes, they're just ugly in my opinion unless you spend alot to make it better, then in the end it works out better just to get a VU +. But I've always wanted a VY Ute, but my brother thinks I should go for the VZ 3.6i
go for vz. much nicer then the vy. in my opinion

mate, get what you want. I know its harsh but when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter what anyone in this thread says, you will get what you want.
I could offer you a vs ute with 80,000kms on it for dick all, and you wouldnt take it because you want a vz. And i respect that, i change cars every time i needs new tyres.
Pretty sure its case closed
Why is it better? That's what I'm trying to find out!
Yeah thanks, I noticed it started in 2006+ so that's probably why there isn't alot of them.
No but there's other questions in this first post reguarding the VZ and and VY differences and stuff which no-one is yet to answer still. And you'd be surprised, got a VS with 80ks?? xD
I plan to buy a VY or VZ SS ute next, basically for me, because i want a v8, its going to come down to the best deal i can buy, in the colours that i want.
In my opinion, the front of the VYs look a lot better, throughout the range, the VZ just doesn't look as mean (i think it's just the grille that puts me off on them). But for the VZ, if i find a 6.0l cheap enough i'll get that instead.
I can't answer any of the technical questions for you, but about the motors, if you get yourself a VZ SV6 i think you'll find you will be very happy with it. They are quicker than the VY, look good (although i still think the VY looks better at the front), they are reliable (so i hear anyways, i've never heard anything bad about the VZs, but then i've never heard anything bad about the VYs either), and just an all round good car.
The only problem i can see being for you is, getting insurance for a P plater, in a late model commodore, being manual and those alloytecs having a bit more power behind them, insurance companies might go to town on you with prices, but maybe if you can organise something with your parents you might be able to get that cheaper.
But, as Classified Calais said, get whichever car you like, not what we like, if you find a good deal, and you think the car looks wicked, go for it.
Yeah thanks for that, I've already worked out the insurance as I'll get a discount for being with the same company as my parents. The VY's do look mean though, and yeah the front of the VZ's are alright, but VY's are better. Is it worth the money for the motor change though? 3.8 / 3.6?
Apparently the 3.8's have more torque anyway?
dude your spending 10k on your 1st car?
now am i the only person who scratched and ran into pylons in a car park with there 1st car? imagen your shiny new vz with a big yellow dent in the side of it.(i parked in the yellow zone).
get yourself a vl for a grand and spend 9k on the motor.
IMO.
go the vy, ya dont need a real good car for a first car cus u will prob want a v8 later anyway, the vy will get you from a to b nicely
Yeah I was always going for the VY but then the VZ S (Not SV6) Aint too much more, got a little more power and a new engine.. I want to know from someone who's driven a VY and VZ, which is better to drive and is it worth the extra $3000-$5000 for the VZ.
I'll most likely go for a VY though
