hey
my dad is a driving instructor, and he has a TDI (turbo direct injection) diesel 2.0L 4 pot and i has turbo laglike you wouldt believe. you mash the pedal trying to get onto a round-a-bout and its about 1 to 1-1/2 seconds before the car moves.
thecar is also made to disable the throtle when the brake is on (no burnouts for us) so we cant do that to try to spool it up.
how would we get rid of this turbo lag??
thanks
may i suggest asking on a car forum that specializes with the particular car he has, whatever that may be, since you neglected to tell us.
transbrake?
DVLHSV Stage 2 is Now in Operation
My VYII Clubsport http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...clubsport.html
transbrake, whats that, and i could have sworn that i said what kind of car it is.. its a 2008 VW golf..
would a rev limiter work??
and i started a thread in the site problems a bit ago asking if i could ost the odd Q about anything not related to commys and mods said yes, as long as i didn't make a habit of it..
well shit, at least tell us what sort of bloody car it is.
how do you expect us to help with such little information?
rev limiters stop the engine from revving past a certain point, doubt that will help.
transbrake will also do stuff all, since the diabled throttle will be an ecu thing.
edit: ok, 08 golf. not a vehicle i know/care to know anything about. goodluck.
install a smaller turbo.
a turbo diesel with 1 second of turbo lag.... sounds about right,
you could always try a better air induction ( try to remove any restrictions, better air filter)
performance exhaust with a big cannon and you should be set
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
isnt turbo lag kind of inherent to turbos? as ryno_vrx said, considering its diesel that lag doesnt seem out of the ordinary
Same thing with the forester, it lags a little.
not the most practical thing, i cant remember who did it (porsche, mercedes, or bmw maybe? i cant remember) they had a twin turbo... one small turbo (so theres no, or little, lag) and then a big turbo so that by the time that kicks in the small turbo would have done its job or reducing the lag.... coz i said it in a way that makes perfect sense? haha anyway....
toyota supras have twin sequential turbos
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
and vw also have a twincharged (supercharger + turbocharger) engine in their golf range.
hey
isnt that the R32 range??
i was told something about a rev limiter down low so it idles at about 1700 RMP so the turbo has time to spool up.
thanks
Try some NOS

its a golf. i dont think it was made to be the next bathurst winner.
but on a serious side you could search around VW forums and get ideas on who can possibly do a tune on them. Like others have said better air intake and better flowing exaust. But without tuning it or changing the turbo i doubt you will get rid of the lag.
it is also a diesel and they are known for not being the most responsive engine hence why they add the turbo.
yeh turbo lag is a pain. our toyota hilux diesel has terrible lag. while on dirt roads there's nothing up until 2500rpm then bam, as soon as it hits 3000 the back wheels spin up and the ass end drifts everywhere.
the only real thing you can do it install a smaller turbo. or increase engine capacity.
But considering its a diesel golf...its primary purpose is good fuel economy
as for a 6sec 1/4 mile on a NA 4-pot...haha, with enough money anythings possible :P
"And i gave that man directions, even though i didn't even know the way; because thats the kinda guy i am today"
6sec 1/4 mile is easy..... just find a big cliff
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
